The Church of Pecune is a faith centered around Pecune, the god of wealth and prosperity. Its core tenet revolves around the concept of Transaction, viewing the exchange of goods, services, and contracts as sacred acts that invite more of the being of Pecune into the world.
LORE
The Church of Pecune originated in the City of Prosperity on Venture Brennen Farno's home plane, a place considered a testament to both the individual and collaborative pursuit of wealth. The faith quickly spread as merchants and tradesfolk recognized the divine significance of their work. The Church's influence is tied closely to the flow of trade, as its adherents believe Pecune desires to reach all corners of the world.
Currently, in Osterra, Brennen is the sole clergy member, and therefore, the de facto leader of the Church in this world.
ROLEPLAY
Since the concept of Transaction is the central pillar of the faith, adherents to the Church strive to perform transactions whenever reasonable. It is anathema to Pecune to give without expectation, unless it is for the betterment of the community. In other words, adherents to the Church tend to not give away things for free, and seek to be compensated for their goods or services.
While the Church emphasizes personal ambition and prosperity, its paradoxical nature creates a diversity of interpretation, leading to two prominent philosophical camps:
Communalists: emphasize uplifting the wealth of the community. Roleplay is generally focused on mutual benefit and reciprocal exchange, as they are required for the flourishing of a community. This philosophy could be summarized by the phrase: “The tide raises all ships.”
Entrepreneurialists: emphasize the gain of personal wealth. This does not mean an Entrepreneurialist character is selfish and villainous, per say, but their tendencies could be more out of a sense of self-sufficiency or self-determination. The accumulation of wealth is a reward for the sacred act of actualizing one’s own ambition.
Further discussion can be found in the in-character document “The Paradox of Pecune” (see tab). Members of the Church of Pecune do not necessarily subscribe to one particular camp.
Adherents of Pecune can worship additional gods.
