Night of a Thousand Tears

"Many have been led to believe that the [Ancient] Korinthian knowledge of portalmancy was lost or forgotten following the civil war, this is not the case. It was burned--the question of every scholar chasing the unscathed scraps of literature is: why? If you can answer that, you will solve portalmancy."

~ Anonymous Master Portalmancer

The reforging of the Korinthian Empire for the first time since before the First Cataclysm and the start of modern history began the same night she declared war on her northern neighbors—the Dominion.

The details are scarce, but it is generally accepted that the Imperator-to-be had discovered or was privy to a long lost mastery of the portal frames which litter the land of Initia. As a result he was able to march his unified armies straight into Iconium and the Dominion capital in the same night. Iconium, greatly inferior, joined the Empire out of terror. The citizens of the Dominion were given no such choice, theirs is the bitterness of the titular weeping, as their undefended citizens, politicians, husbands, wives, daughters, and sons were killed by the sword or in the burning.

The Dominion has been in retreat from their Western ancestral home since and the war is still ongoing.
