Pouncil of Strays
/

The Pouncil of Strays are a group of adventurers from the Ludos Adventuring Guild: Flower Rock division who offer no explanation of their moniker when asked.

Adventures: Season 1

The adventuring party that will soon declare themselves the Pouncil of Strays investigated reports of vandalism at the Greatgift Winery and the trail led into the littered Tower Gardens. Behind the sabotage was a small lavender dragonling, Saltbasket, who had been forbidden from seeing their best friend, Thovna Greatgift, daughter of the family franchise. The Pouncil became the sponsors to Saltbasket’s Lavender Crest Winery (tentative name). If only it knew how to grow grapes and make wine.

After giving pseudonyms and posing as prospective students, the Pouncil of Strays toured the School of Stars’ culinary campus to follow-up on a lead from the Radiant Fist: that the Shadow Chef was still terrorizing the staff and students. While they found no evidence of more mind-control, they uncovered the presence of shadows prowling the grounds at night and in the kitchens. Due to this development, the school is under official internal investigation and had to withdraw from providing all of the food for the upcoming Great Goat Festival, damaging their reputation and tradition.

Determined to protect the larger game in the Vestrine Woods, the Pouncil met with local ranger Herbaceous to learn about the “fur-dogs” that were mauling beasts and setting parts of the forests on fire. The party tentatively befriended a splinter group known as the Spiderfang Goblins, came upon Gushboot summoning the earthly Old Gorsky, and were beseeched by Delfina the dryad for help protecting the woods. At an old larder, they found the gnolls somehow feeding a growing maw demon, destroying all, with Bellitia bestowing a blessing to smite the fiend. It is unknown how such a creature came to be under the gnolls’ control.

The Pouncil followed a curious request from the job board illustrating a suit of armor going missing, which directions to go to the statue of Flower Rock founder, Grandpa Dandebeard. There, they aided Edna the tinkerer with communicating with the small village of moldfolk that had taken up residence in the nearby bushes. Their leader, Dosporio, asked for the group's aid in returning the magical suit of armor the group had come to worship (it has recently been reclaimed by its owner, The Duskhallows merchant family). After questioning Old Man Flanghru at his fledgling art museum of the construct’s whereabouts, the group reluctantly realized they may need to raid a mausoleum at Stonefall Cemetery. Caretaker Singya led them to the Duskhallow Crypts before a plethora of dusty heirlooms were animated by the ancestors to provoke a “good-natured” fight. Bruised and battered by bird cages and pans, the set of armor was allowed to return to its previous resting spot in the Public Gardens.

Interested in chasing down the rumors of unusual creatures within the Vestrine Woods, the Pouncil met with Sosha One-Name of the OldLair’s Monster Menagerie and her assistants, McHenry and Magnesium. Their goal: to track down and magically teleport the beasts to the traveling zoo for rehabilitation and relocation. They encountered a trio of floating jellyfish-like creatures that telepathically asked probing questions about the party’s recent troubles before being convinced to try living under the protection of the menagerie. The next creature was lured out by an audio recording and trapped with the aid of Mardal (of Team Storm & Flame) before it was put into magical slumber and teleported away.

Following recently used trails, the Pouncil went deeper into the Vestrine Woods and encountered odd sights such as a grove of hundreds of caterpillars, saplings growing out of skeletons, carnivorous shambling mounds of plants, and a creature that mimicked a wooden chest left in an abandoned campsite. They eventually confronted an opposing group of “monster hunters” who were determined to purge the forests of these unnatural beasts by any means necessary, which included using deadly force against any that may hinder them.

The Pouncil made the difficult decision to pursue the crimson-crossed monster hunters through the night, attacking at the same time that the ultimate target (or threat) appeared from the swamp edge, an enormous, foul-smelling, long-necked beast that mowed through the opposing team with what can only be described as a ray of death. Despite being weakened, the teleportation spell failed the first time and succeeded after the creature was knocked out. The group was able to find and secure most of their contract targets.
