"The best research is one where history will never repeat the blight"
Description
Considered by his family eccentric with a twist of charm. Will keep a nose in a book but once inspiration hits will be ready to invent, when his gnoll research allows him to.
Biography
Original Name Kurt Eridian (Changed his name to Marshaven to Honor his Trusted Friend turned brother Kirk Mudhallow as well to gain favor with Gnoll Tribes)
Studies any Domain of Knowledge or Trickery for his inventions.
Currently Writing his dissertation on the Gnoll wars based on its Cultural and Economical Impact towards Ptolus.
In the tranquil village of Alderbrook (update this to a village on the map linked), nestled amidst dense forests and rolling hills, there lived a curious soul named Kurt Eridian. From a young age, Kurt was captivated by the mysteries of machinery and the arcane arts. While other children played with wooden swords and chased after imaginary foes, Kurt could be found poring over old tomes in his father's study or tinkering with gears and pulleys salvaged from broken carts.
As he grew older, Kurts fascination with inventions only deepened. He apprenticed under Master Silas, the village blacksmith, learning the secrets of metallurgy and craftsmanship. Yet, his ambitions extended beyond mere craftsmanship; he yearned to blend magic and mechanics, to create contraptions that would astonish and aid the realm.
It was during one of his nightly readings in the village library that Kurt stumbled upon references to Gnolls. Obscure passages spoke of these humanoid hyena-like creatures: their tribal societies, primal magic, and relentless ferocity in battle. While most dismissed Gnolls as mere monsters or a distant threat, Kurt saw opportunity. He envisioned harnessing their savage ingenuity to advance his inventions.
Driven by this newfound purpose, Kurt embarked on a quest for knowledge. He traveled far and wide, seeking out sages and adventurers to unravel the secrets of their abilities. He documented their tribal rituals, studied the markings on their weapons, and deciphered the crude talismans they used to channel primal energies.
His breakthrough came during an encounter with a renegade gnoll deep in the Ptolus Docks. Through a combination of diplomacy and cunning, Kurt persuaded the mercenary to share fragments of their lore for a forgotten tribe. He learned to infuse his mechanical creations with elemental energies by creating a Gnoll Mask which can translocate a connected Gnoll with himself.
However, his research was not without peril. One fateful night, a fire consumed his workshop, destroying prototypes and precious research notes. Undeterred, Kurt rebuilt from the ashes, driven by an unyielding determination to unveil the true potential of Gnollish magic. His dissertation is to create funding to continue his research and inventions.
Now, with a reputation as both a visionary inventor and a daring explorer, Kurt continues his quest. His workshop hums with the rhythmic clanking of gears and the crackling of arcane energies. Each invention brings him closer to his ultimate goal: to create a masterpiece that will not only revolutionize the realm but also cement his name in the annals of history as the pioneer who dared to harness the wild spirit of Gnolls for the betterment of all.

Meeting Kirk Mudhallow and the search for Gnoll Society
Kurt having quite the knack for handling tricky situations befriended the gnoll through cunning and diplomacy when seeing him in the streets asking for food. He used empathy to reach his heart and requested his assistance to learn more about the gnoll wars seeing his body as not one of the known tribes. Kurt would hire him and give him the opportunity to become stronger by being his bodyguard.
Having Kirk as a bodyguard certainly made them a formidable team.
Their friendship had grown strong through shared experiences and challenges by researching Gnoll culture. At times he would bet in the coliseum for his friend earning coin for food.
Kurt's research of gnoll tribes and history became a fascinating pursuit for the duo. It would give them deeper insights into Kirk's culture and background, strengthening their bond as friends. Exploring the rich history of gnoll tribes uncovered ancient traditions, legends, and perhaps even mysteries that could lead them to new adventures and discoveries.
Did their research lead them to uncover any particularly interesting or unexpected aspects of gnoll society?
They considered someone may have secretly caused one of the gnoll tribes' society to collapse which added an intriguing layer to Kurt and Kirk's explorations. They both felt they may have encountered obstacles intent on keeping gnoll culture hidden. This secrecy might hint at ancient rituals, powerful artifacts, or even conflicts within gnoll tribes that could impact the wider world.
Navigating through this secrecy required both Kurt's cunning and Kirk's strength, forging an even stronger bond between them as they unravel the hidden truths. They managed to uncover small hints to secrets while keeping themselves safe from those who may seek to protect gnoll society's secrecy.
Researching the gnoll wars would indeed be challenging task to Kurt but his intellectual approach continued to uncover surface level origins of gnoll tribes, their inter-tribal conflicts, alliances with other races or creatures, and words within the text of legendary figures or artifacts associated with the Gnolls' history.
Delving into the gnoll wars involved studying old texts, but it was difficult consulting with scholars or wise elders from other races who have knowledge of history, having them prepare as they may need to venture further into dangerous territories of Ptolus (should be the Empire) where remnants of these conflicts still linger.
Kurt's cunning in gathering information and Kirk's prowess as a bodyguard would be invaluable assets in navigating through the complexities of this research.
As they uncover the truths behind the gnoll wars, they hope to uncover the reasons for the secrecy surrounding gnoll society. Perhaps there are ancient agreements, powerful entities, or hidden dangers that gnolls have guarded against for generations.
How did Kurt and Kirk hope to manage piecing together these historical puzzles, and what would they discover about gnoll society that could change their perspective on their friend Kirk?
Kurt tried studying old texts written by gnoll elders with not much luck but some of the wording seems to point to hidden accounts of all of the Gnoll Tribes (including lost tribe) war. These texts would provide firsthand insights into the gnoll perspective on the conflicts, detailing their motivations, alliances, and the impact of these wars on gnoll society. But it was a jumbled mess which would take time deciphering. Kurt's excitement and determination to uncover this secret has been his main motivation.
Navigating these decades old texts would likely require Kurt's meticulous research skills and Kirk's protection against any potential dangers or adversaries who might seek to keep this knowledge hidden. Kurt wishes to discover if these accounts could also shed light on the reasons behind gnoll society's secrecy, revealing ancient rivalries, cultural taboos, or even existential threats that gnolls have faced throughout history.
As Kurt and Kirk unravel the truths buried within these texts, they hope to gain a deeper appreciation for Kirk's heritage and the complexities of gnoll society. Their journey through these old texts would not only enrich their understanding of gnolls but also strengthen their friendship through shared exploration and discovery.
Kurt Found one damming revelation that an unknown has altered the lost Gnolls Tribe place in history to shift the blame onto that gnolls tribe for starting the war adding a thrilling twist to Kurt's research. This discovery would turn their quest into a mission to uncover the truth and restore the gnolls' rightful place in history.
To expose this deception, Kurt and Kirk create a plan to gather evidence from multiple sources: corroborating ancient texts in dungeons one day, seeking out witnesses or descendants of those involved in the wars, and perhaps even navigating political or cultural obstacles erected by the manipulating race.
The stakes would be high, as unraveling this deception could have far-reaching consequences for gnoll society's reputation and relations with other races. It would also test Kurt and Kirk's friendship and their ability to navigate through a web of deceit and intrigue.
How would Kurt and Kirk navigate the challenges posed by those who sought to uphold the false narrative? And once they uncovered the truth, how would they use this knowledge to reshape the understanding of gnoll history and relations with other races?
Studying different languages spoken by the races involved in the war would have been a crucial step for Kurt and Kirk in uncovering the truth and documenting the real history of the gnoll wars.
This linguistic expertise may one day allow them to access ancient texts, diplomatic records, and oral histories that were crucial in piecing together the true sequence of events.
As they immersed themselves in these languages, Kurt and Kirk gained insights into the cultural nuances, biases, and perspectives of each race involved in the conflicts. This understanding became essential in discerning where historical records had been manipulated or misrepresented to vilify the gnolls.
Once armed with this knowledge, Kurt and Kirk likely started to compile their findings into a comprehensive dissertation. This scholarly work will hope to present a compelling argument backed by evidence from multiple sources, aimed at persuading scholars and historians to reevaluate their understanding of gnoll history. Kurt's dissertation would have sought to preserve the truth and ensure that future generations had an accurate account of the gnoll wars.
The process of writing and defending this dissertation would have required not only academic rigor but also diplomacy and advocacy to convince skeptics and challenge established narratives.
They decided Keeping their revelations about the true history of the gnoll wars to themselves adds an intriguing layer to protecting themselves from the one who destroyed the lost tribe as they could be tied to anyone in Ptolus. They have chosen to keep this information close for strategic reasons, such as ensuring they have gathered enough evidence or devised a plan to present their findings effectively. Alternatively, they are cautious due to potential repercussions from those who benefit from the false narrative.
Kurt decision to withhold this knowledge also stemmed from a desire to protect gnoll society from further scrutiny or conflict until they are confident in their ability to manage the fallout. This secrecy might necessitate ongoing research, gathering additional evidence, or even seeking allies who can support them in their mission to reveal the truth.
As they prepare to share their revelations, Kurt and Kirk are concerned they might face internal dilemmas about when and how to disclose their findings. They would need to consider the implications for gnoll society, their own safety, and the broader repercussions within the scholarly and political communities. Especially with the fire that destroyed his research previously.
How do Kurt and Kirk plan to eventually reveal their revelations? What factors are influencing their decision-making process, and how are they preparing for the potential impact of their discoveries on gnoll history and relations with other races?
That is were Their story begins.
Gnoll Research
As a result, he documents Gnolls in Ptolus that face significant prejudice and discrimination.
Through his trusted Hired Mercenary Kirk Mudhallow, he has been able to learn about a majority of Gnolls Living Conditions in Ptolus. His drawings show how they live in the Warrens, a poor and dangerous district of the city. Here, they eke out a living through menial labor or criminal activities, often forming gangs for protection and mutual support. He Hopes to find a way to help this race from certain extinction.
Despite these harsh conditions, he romanticizes how some Gnolls have managed to integrate into the city's lower echelons, working as mercenaries or guards for those willing to overlook their heritage.
He has documented the current Tribes into four factions:
Bloodfur Tribe: The Bloodfur gnolls, with their focus on strength and ferocity, driving any who do not follow traditional gnoll territories to death.
Bonechewers: The Bonechewers view spiritual faith through Gnoll gods, and thus deserved their fate by shamanism or so kurt believes.
Nightclaws: The Nightclaws took a more pragmatic approach, theorizing they follow espionage and subterfuge. Their traditions are well kept secret and he has yet to gain any access to their tribes.
Mudhallow: Not much has been found in his research but its an unspoken rule to any Gnolls to never talk about this tribe among non Gnoll members. His one key to finding out the tribes truth is his trusted mercenary Kirk.
Kurt has more history and information on the gnoll tribes and history of the gnoll wars but he keeps it closed until more of the truth reveals itself.

Kurts curiosity and research of Gnoll Culture has caused him trouble within the districts of Crownspoint and Ironclad Ward. Whenever he is in mortal danger he uses the mask of gnolls to trade places with Kirk for protection.
If his obsession of history and invention gets the better of him it could lead to his death.
Relic: Mask Of the Gnolls
This relic has two identical masks in the form of a Gnoll. Found By Kurt during his research of the Gnoll wars. Adorned with the marking of the Mudhallow Tribe.

When two users invest into this item they gain the following benefits.
Kurt is able to add his arcana into the mask connecting him to Kirk and trade places with him as a free action (once per day) used to help protect him in dire situations where Kirks strength is needed but only when they psychically agree to trade places.
Kurt is able to understand and speak all of Kirks's known languages. This helps when researching the Gnoll wars.
If the mask is removed while Kurt is in combat, Kurt will be transported back unable to trade places until the next 24 hours.
Note the masks removal and teleportation is not considered common knowledge to Party members currently.
Kurt is unable to transport items (normal or magical) with him unless they are invested.
They share a psychic link when wearing the mask, knowing how the other feels and experiencing each others past when activating the mask.
