Carmilla Karnstein is a prominent religious figure amongst followers of The Crimson Embers.

Though many Ganjue / Strigoi testify that she was born a feline, records begin rapidly contradicting one another as Karnstein refined her talents for subsumption.

It is unclear just how much of her consciousness remains in her Ganjue / Strigoi descendants.

Background

The First Era

Karnstein was born as a wildcat (sometime during the First Era) and quickly learned to manipulate as only cats can. Unusually large and territorial for her species, she claimed a sizable share of territory and quickly established herself in the eyes of local Spirits.

When taken by a Alkhakh / Fae for consumption, many of the aforementioned Alkhakh / Fae's court mistook Karnstein's violence for their own leader's. This gave Karastein the reputation of a Spirit-Snatcher, which of course only gave Karastein more power due to the mechanics of Medium magic and reputations. This would eventually evolve into a 'canon' ability of Karastein's.

Later Karastein would meet and befriend Xurhuan Zhi / Elysia.

After attaining Xurhuan Zhi / Elysia's blessings, Karnstein would initiate romantic overtures. On attempting to subsume Xurhuan Zhi / Elysia, however, Gurang Zhi / Solane would interfere: disintegrating Karastein and casting her ashes into a river. The remainders of Karnstein's hive mind would dedicated a church (The Elysian Church) to her memory.

To this day the Sun frowns upon all of Karnstein's descendants.
