Appearance:

Selvi is wiry and constantly moving. Barely five and a half feet tall but always looking taller because she stands on the balls of her feet. Her dark hair is kept in a messy braid that frays out in a dozen directions, and she perpetually has ink stains on her fingertips and smudges on her cheeks from charcoal sketches or field notes.

Her clothes are layered, functional, and full of pockets: vials clink softly when she walks, and scraps of parchment stick out at odd angles. She wears round spectacles with tiny built-in magnifying lenses that she flips down without warning.

Her eyes, bright hazel with gold flecks, have a kind of perpetual “ooh, what’s that?” energy.

Personality & Demeanor:

Selvi is relentlessly optimistic and approaches the world with unfiltered enthusiasm. Even dangerous situations spark excitement instead of fear. Though she will loudly narrate everything she’s thinking. She isn’t oblivious to social norms; she just gets so excited she forgets them.

She is loyal, well-meaning, and highly distractible.

Mannerisms:

  • Hand talking: She gestures constantly. When describing monster anatomy, she unconsciously mimics the movement of jaws, limbs, or tentacles with her hands.

  • Personal space obliviousness: She leans in very close when examining wounds, monster parts, or interesting items, sometimes while still talking, inches from someone’s face.

  • “Thinking bounce”: When solving a problem, she bounces lightly on her toes with excitement.

  • Talks to specimens: Not in a creepy way, more like encouragement or apology. (“Sorry, little fella, this will sting only a second!”)

Quirks:

Names all her field tools.

  • Her scalpel is “Nipsy III.”

  • Her tongs are “Sir Grappleton.”

  • Her measuring straps are “Tall Paul.”

  • Her journal, “Grimore Jr. Jr.,” it is her third attempt—she lost the first two to unfortunate monster-related accidents.

  • She has a tool box that is also a mimic named “Mrs. Mimi.”
