Bastion Rules/Guide
🧭 Bastions of the Shattered Lands
An Official Notice from The Gilded Compass
As the influence of the Gilded Compass spreads across the Shattered Lands, select adventurers will be granted the right to establish Bastions—permanent strongholds that serve as symbols of legacy, authority, and renewal in a world still healing from the Shattering.
This document serves as a formal guide to Bastions within the campaign.
📜 Core Rules & Foundations
Bastions will follow the official Bastion rules as presented in the 2024 Dungeon Master’s Guide.
All standard rules regarding Bastion tiers, facilities, upkeep, and benefits apply unless otherwise noted by the DM.
🌍 Purpose & Vision — Reforging the World
Bastions are more than mechanical upgrades. They are intended to be a reflection of your character and a statement of how you choose to shape the world after the Shattering.
When designing your Bastion, consider what legacy your character wishes to leave behind:
Do you seek to found a new town or city, bringing order, trade, and light to a scarred land?
Do you wish to raise a castle or fortress, forming an order of knights, guardians, or zealots sworn to a cause?
Do you want your Bastion placed within an already established settlement, creating a new guild, school, cult, or faction that influences local power structures?
Your Bastion is a tool of reconstruction, authority, and identity—a tangible answer to the question:
“What does the world look like because your character survived the Shattering?”
🏗️ Construction & Oversight
The Gilded Compass, in cooperation with the city of Siothruna, will oversee the logistics and labor of basic construction.
However, the responsibility of oversight and establishment falls to the character:
Your character must personally supervise the process.
This requires a minimum commitment of 4 in-game months.
The exact duration will be handled through a DM-approved time jump.
During this period, your character will take a temporary break from active adventuring to ensure the Bastion is properly founded, staffed, and stabilized.
🧱 Location, Design & Purpose
Players must work directly with the DM to determine:
The location of the Bastion
The design and layout (following DMG guidelines)
The intended purpose of the Bastion (military, arcane, trade, religious, scholarly, or otherwise)
Once approved, the DM will place the Bastion on the official world map, permanently altering the geography and political landscape of the Shattered Lands.
🛠️ Special Facilities
In addition to the standard Bastion facilities outlined in the DMG, select special facilities may be constructed.
These represent setting-specific advancements unique to the Shattered Lands.
Examples can be found through organizations such as the Stonebound Conclave operating within Siothruna’s craft and guild network.
Availability, cost, and narrative impact of these facilities are determined collaboratively with the DM.
🔮 Sigil Stone Chamber (Guild Mandate)
Every Bastion will include a Sigil Stone Chamber, constructed by the Gilded Compass with arcane oversight from Pinna.
This chamber functions as:
A guild-sanctioned teleportation and travel node
A strategic asset for logistics, exploration, and rapid response
While the Bastion owner maintains the chamber, the Sigil Stone itself remains guild property.
⭐ Eligibility Requirements
A character becomes eligible to establish a Bastion once both of the following requirements are met:
🧭 Rank: Wayfinder within the Gilded Compass
(15 Renown required)⚔️ Level: 6 or higher
These requirements reflect the trust, influence, and competence necessary to permanently shape the world.
🗺️ A Living Legacy
Bastions are not merely rewards—they are anchors of civilization in a fractured land. Each Bastion changes trade routes, power dynamics, faction influence, and future adventures.
What you build may one day:
Become a city others call home
Serve as a fortress against the Dark
Stand as a beacon of Light, knowledge, or ambition
The Shattered Lands will remember those who dared to rebuild.
