Name | The Lost Prince Campaign |
Premise | Mierani Forest has a history from before starfall and has long held a special place for Golarion Elves. Today, elves from the Darklands and the reformed runelord Belimarious seek to control it, Kyonin elves and an order of Druids seek to protect it, nymphs and other fey-folk seek to preserve it, and others seek only a refuge and a living. Behind it all, something ancient stirs in the forest with ties to the First World. |
Locations | Mierani forest and adjacent regions. Kyonin. Occasional forays into other inner sea regions. Likely one or more times in the First World but not mostly set there (probably). |
Sandbox-ness | Medium: players will drive most of the decisions but within the context of the premise above. So, just picking up and moving to another region is not supported. Choosing who and how to interact with NPCs and organizations is supported. |
Roleplay | PCs will be expected to be sympathetic to a wild forest and its fey and other primal inhabitants. Roleplay will be high with most encounters resolvable without combat. There will be some combat and as combat is time consuming it may still occupy a good amount of the wall-clock time but there will be roleplay only sessions and it is up to the players if they want to skew to very little combat. |
Leveling pace | Probably 4-6 sessions (depending on player experience with PF2E) to level 3 then 4-5 sessions per level after that. Most likely milestone progression (i.e., PCs level when they have done "enough".) |
Class Restrictions | As a roleplay heavy campaign, I want players to avoid combat focused classes. Almost anything could be more roleplay based with the right personality, feats and archetypes, but some classes are very clearly combat focused, so they won't be allowed without a discussion. In that discussion, you'll need to convince me that you can play that class in a way that doesn't force unnecessary combats and doesn't bore you when we aren't in combat. This is a great opportunity to play classes and builds you might find a bit weaker in combat but interesting. You don't need to be strong in combat because I will be looking for a party that is about the same in terms of a lower focus on combat and will tune combat encounters accordingly. Some classes do not fit the premise very well and won't be allowed. These include inventors and gunslingers. |
Ancestry Restrictions | As with classes, you can try to convince me on any ancestry, but many don't fit the campaign premise or campaign mechanics. So, no merfolk (too hard to accommodate). No conrasu (too weird and requires too much time RP'ing to explain what it is). No undead. Maybe centaur but there will be underground and dungeon encounters. |
Uncommon feats | Usually okay unless they come from an organization such as the Pathfinder Society or Firebrands. In that case, you may need to join that society to gain access and some organizations may not be a good fit for the premise. Always ask on uncommon feats but most are okay if not from an organization. |
Backstory | Note that this is your characters back story before the game starts. It is not the PF2E background which is part of building your character for the game (see next few lines). It does not need to be very long. If you do want a long backstory that is fine but summarize the key points at the beginning, so it is easy for me to reference. If you make me scan five pages looking for hooks 20 sessions into the campaign, I will likely miss them. You can use AI for your backstory but guide the AI. That is, maybe use it to generate some general ideas, pick one or two to refine, ask it to make further updates until you have a backstory that makes sense for you. Don't just tell it to generate a backstory from this page and use it as-is. Even if you don't use AI, if you have a long backstory, you might want to have AI summarize it for you. You are expected to have a backstory that gives you a reason for being in the Mierani forest although you don't have to be from the forest. You do not need to have hooks in your backstory. If you do have hooks, if they don't tie into the campaign premise, they probably won't get used. There is no guarantee that we will get to any of your hooks, though. |
Uncommon backgrounds | Most are okay but ask |
Rare feats | Probably not okay but you can ask |
Rare background | Probably not okay but you can ask. The feybound background might be okay but we'll talk about it in session. Rare backgrounds can make the PC the center of the campaign or provide an edge compared to other PCs, which I want to avoid. We can see if they work with the group as a whole, especially if most want a rare background but they require care |
Core Content | Allowed, except see class and ancestry notes |
Lost Omens Content | Allowed, except talk to me about organizations and regional requirements. Most regional ones are okay but realize you might not be able to get back to that region easily which might hamper access to some of the higher-level things from that region. |
Adventure Path content | Most of it is okay but talk to me since it is all uncommon or rare. Keep in mind I will need to code up some of these or buy modules I don't own to enable this in the VTT so try not to go crazy with those. |
