Time for the rest of the story behind Greer's cuckholding of Eldric the Bald ...

Greer is always squirrely when he reveals the story of sleeping with Eldric the Bald's wife, Lin Bai, because the truth is this: Lin Bai is the only woman Greer has ever loved. And he doesn't like getting all in his feelings. The two doomed lovers had a plan for the future that all went up in literal smoke when Eldric caught them in bed.

Lin Bai was the true power and money behind the Raiders, as she was the last of the Shenzu lineage and namesake. She had married Eldric to maintain strength in the region, but Eldric was brutish and harsh, turning the once respected Shenzu Raiders into little more than a roving band of bullies and thugs. She also knew that Eldric was planning to kill her so he could claim her family's heritage for himself.

Lin Bai recruited Greer into the Shenzu Raiders, hoping he could help her regain control. Being hopelessly in love with her, Greer did whatever she asked. It was Lin Bai who arranged Greer's betrothal to Eldric's sister as a way to legally get Greer into the family.

When Eldric discovered Greer and Lin Bai in bed, he murdered her on the spot. This made things much easier for Eldric, as he was always planning to murder her, and now he could blame the whole thing on Greer.

Here is what Eldric discovered once Greer fled: Lin Bai Shenzu had a legally binding will. And in that will, she named Greer as the sole benefactor. Which is why Eldric and the Shenzu Raiders were so keen on ensuring Greer was dead.

Unknown to Greer, when he and the Green Dragon Brotherhood finally killed off the Shenzu Raiders, he cemented his inheritance of the Shenzu family assets, including their stately pleasure dome citadel, Keep Xanadu. I'm sure emissaries have been trying to find him with word of his good fortune...

I leave it to you for the details of where exactly the citadel is (somewhere between Millhaven and Crow's Keep, I would guess) and what other assets go along with the citadel (like, I dunno, administrative staff, extra mercenaries 😬)...

Anyway, how's that for artful retconning? Greer's surprise inheritance comes from his one true love, Lin Bai Shenzu.
