The Aye-Green Enclave

Surrounded by high, snow capped mountains lies the sheltered country of The Aye-Green Enclave. Past its rocky border regions, the forests and fields lay quaint and calming. Little rivers flow steadily, leaving their source in the melting of snow and ice in the mountains behind. Fresh air is carried on soft, moderate winds, winding and twisting their way through deep parts of the forest. The inhabitants of the Enclave started out as mainly small gnome folk setting up small establishments, living in quaint little huts or burrows dug into a hillside.

These small communities still exist in the Enclave. They live in harmony with nature, taking only what they need and giving back when they can. They tend gardens, hunt wildlife, and make their homes out of what their surroundings provide. But as trouble in the surrounding countries grew, folks of various ancestries started looking for such a place of peace and shelter. New folks started arriving in the Aye-Green Enclave, and as they did, new villages popped up, and the little burrow of Alderton grew out to a grand city.

The Court of Alderton

The Court of Alderton is the ruling body of the Aye-Green Enclave. It is made up of “The Six who bring Guidance”. These are wise folk who have been sent to function as a representative of one of the five largest tribes living in the country. These tribes consist of The Founding Gnomes, The Wise Elves, The Rooted Leshy and The Revered Lizardfolk, who all send one representative. Only the biggest tribe, The Clan of the Uncommon, is allowed to have two representatives.

The Clan of the Uncommon comprises itself out of any ancestry that does not fit within the four most dominant races of the Aye-Green Enclave. Its members come from various places and backgrounds, which causes the tribe to have many differing opinions. As they are the largest group with the most widespread ideas, they are allowed to send two leaders that will try to cover most, if not all, of their bases.

While the tribes argue about many things, there is always one thing they can agree about; The Aye-Green Enclave is a safe haven for all who treasure nature, and must remain as such.

The Green Wardens

While the Aye-Green enclave is surrounded by high mountains, their borders are still in danger of various intruders. To combat these intruders, the Aye-Green Enclave has set up a group of highly skilled individuals tasked with keeping the borders closed to those who wish to interrupt the ways of the Enclavers.

Many decades ago, the gnomes of the Aye-Green Enclave were protected by the dwarven kingdom that lay in the mountain. Its ruler, Egrison, was known as the Green Warden, a fearsome warrior who kept his gnome neighbors safe in return for food, drink and other goods. As the times changed and the old ruler died, the dwarven kingdom slowly disappeared, in search of greener pastures, or as they would say, “goldener rocks”.

The gnomes started to feel the protection dwindle, as more corrupt beings started to enter their territory. The planar entities that plagued Yu-Shu found easy prey in the peaceful folk of the Enclave. Later these disturbances were almost shown up by knights of the Ardahl Theocracy, looking to cleanse the place of its inhuman citizens.

As their situation grew more dire, the gnomes decided to gather in their biggest borough, Alderton, to discuss how they will survive in these lands without the protection of the dwarves. To their surprise, they were visited by the new inhabitants of their once secluded country. This gathering turned into the first ever gathering of the Court, and the first ever unanimous decision made by all the tribes of the Enclave; the creation of the Green Wardens, the protectors of the Aye-Green Enclave.

The title of Green Warden carries a lot of weight in the Aye-Green Enclave, and many youngsters dream of becoming one of the protectors of their beloved lands. Some Wardens have even started to wander out of the Enclave, looking to protect others who understand the spirit of the Enclave.

Inos' Gathering

Once every year, an annual gathering takes place on the biggest open field that can be found in the enclave. The open field is crucial, as the gathering aims to bless the land by means of Vadrina, Goddess of Growth and Khadari, Goddes of Renewal.

Legend tells us of the first gathering, dating back thousands of years. Back then it was performed only by Inos Widebranch, an ancient giant tree leshy whose family and land was lost to firestorms brought on by Strato. They circled the land for days, asking the goddesses of growth and the goddess of renewal to bless these fields where they had lost their kin and make sure that new plants would sprout and roots would grow. The ceremony was watched up close and from far away, many gnomes looked in awe as the giant tree walked in wide circles, and as Inos finally came to a stop, their feet rooted deeply into the ground, planting them there forevermore. As the years passed, the forest around Inos grew lush and grand. Within the deep vegetation of Inos’ Forest, you can still find Inos, standing in the middle of the forest, the largest tree in the entire continent.

Inos’ forest is visited and inhabited by many druids and druid circles. It's a strong connection to nature, and the two goddesses give druids much to work with. It is no wonder that many Enclavers are born with some druidic powers.
