Full name: Wayne Scott Kensington
Born: 1955
Title/Job: Doctor (M.D.), researcher and case manager at Institute of the Americas
Background: Obsessed with Guardsmen from childhood. Upon completion of his residency he immediately got hired on at the Institute of the Americas and worked his way up through the ranks to a very high level researcher position which he held up until his arrest in 2012.
Discovered the lucrative black market for suppressants early on, and was a supplier through different dealers starting in the mid 1990s. It convinced him that there were possibly a lot of latent Guardsmen, and he became fanatical in his search to find a way to manifest them. Working with Alex Tyler he perfected a serum that worked but was very slow acting, and required repeated doses over time. He faked a research study involving law enforcement and first responders, allowing him to “infect” a wide selection of people across the USA. The first to be force-manifested was Ofc. Ryan Zhang in 2012.
Kensington was Marcus's former pushy, insensitive case manager and Alex's former case manager. Revealed as the cold, calculating mastermind of Book 1's events. Views the fatal Protector bond as a biological flaw and sought to alter Guardsman biology so bonds could be casual and non-lethal. To achieve this, his goal was to study and replicate Alex's unique survival marker. Set up a covert informant network in St. Marks to monitor Alex; hired a thug to murder Theo Taylor, hoping Alex would die so he could autopsy them both; infected thousands of normal humans with Alex's genetic markers to artificially recreate late-onset Guardsmen. Among his confirmed Tallahassee test subjects: Ryan Zhang, Leslie Thompson, and Elijah Parker. Defeated at the end of Book 1 and sentenced to life in prison. Not physically present in Book 2 but remains the primary engine of its plot. Antagonist, Book 1.
