Aurelius suddenly didn't feel well and told the other two he'd send backup before running downstairs. Ashe and Monseigneur waited for backup, and soon Gore, Jace, and Mr. Kitty arrived. In the dark attic, Ashe and Monseigneur handed everlight crystals to Jace and Mr. Kitty so they could see. Gore squeezed into a tiny secret hall leading to the last room on the right, but the secret door was locked, and he broke his picks trying to open it. Meanwhile, Ashe peeked into the room from the main door and spotted more clockwork toys and animated furniture. He informed the group and blended into the hall's darkness. The rest of the party joined Ashe at the main doors to the room, except Monseigneur, who decided to keep trying to pick the lock and occupy the creature while the rest got into position.

Upon stepping into the room, disarray was the first thing you noticed. The wooden floor laid out in a herringbone pattern gave the space a rustic feel, complemented by the stone walls. To your left, a disheveled and broken bed lay with its blanket tossed aside. Wooden chairs surrounded the bed, one overturned, and a small table was cluttered with scattered items. In the center, a large metal grate or gate rested flat on the floor, hinting at recent or ongoing activity. To your right, a sturdy wooden table stood mostly empty, with only a few nicks and scratches. In the corner, a workbench was strewn with tools and equipment, suggesting a workshop of sorts. The overall atmosphere was one of chaos and utility, as if hastily used or abandoned.

Combat ensued, with the party taking down a clockwork toy soldier, a clockwork toy spider, and an animated chair.

After the ruckus, they could investigate the room more thoroughly. Upon examining the clockwork items, the group found a maker's mark intricately engraved on some of the toys. The emblem featured a detailed gear wheel encircled by a beautifully crafted serpent, suggesting a blend of precision engineering and mysticism.

Scattered around the room and under workstations, the party found a healer's toolkit, a ring of sigils, a consumed aeon stone, a low-grade silver dagger, a lesser acid flask, a lesser alchemist's fire, two minor elixirs of life, fifteen bottles of fine wine, and an onyx panther.

Under the desk was a crumpled note, possibly dropped by someone. It read:

Varek,

Our plans proceed apace. The integration of chaositech into the clockwork designs has shown promising results, though we must be cautious. The devices have drawn some unwanted attention, and I fear our activities may soon be discovered. We must accelerate our efforts.

The hidden workshop remains secure. Continue your work with the utmost discretion. The entrance is in the alley where the press wheels never stop turning, where the ink flows day and night. Ensure the toys reach their intended destinations to sow the chaos we need to disrupt the order in Ptolus.

Our benefactor is pleased with your progress. Continue to prove yourself, and you shall be rewarded beyond measure. As for the gnome in the South Market, remind him of our agreement. His colorful creations are critical, and his compliance must be ensured.

Stay vigilant.

For the future of chaos,

Thalira
