D&D 5e vs. PF2e

Short Introductions

Justin/Joppen (he/him), mostly experienced in D&D 5e but looking to switch to PF2e. Usually a DM. Plays whatever the party needs, with an attitude.

Oskar/... Rock (he/him), mostly played D&D 5e, but been playing more PF2e /pos.

Boaz (he/him), mostly played D&D 5e, recent switch to PF2e.

Mark (he/him), lots of experience, mostly D&D 3.5 and PF1e, also recently switched to PF2e and will likely not switch back. Also into CoC, VtM etc.

Luna (she/her), mostly played D&D 5e, also gained experience in PF2e, CoC, VtM etc. Plays either what seems fun or what the party needs.

Aspen, (they/he), mostly GM, mostly ran D&D 5e, but also been running various other systems.

Campaign Information

It will be a mystery focused game.

The game is high concept: the main thing that makes the story interesting is the phantom plot. There is space for the characters, but the focus will be on the concept itself.

Nobledark tone. World is dark and unfair, but it's worth saving.

Houserules and Optional Rules

We will be using the summary system detailed in the Player's Guide.

The discussion post in Discord will be locked after 3 days. The information will then be finalised and moved to the LegendKeeper.
The summariser will be booped the day after the session as a small reminder.

We will play with a minimum of 3 players. If we have less than 3, we miss the session.

Missing sessions is okay as long as you're motivated to play and don't make shitty excuses (*insert party guy story here*).

We will use the method to the right for filling a PC role and slot when someone is not present. These Bythos are sent by Rhet Cahn, god of the time-space continuum.

We will not be using the Ancestry Paragon feature, as not all ancestries get enough feats to fill the new total of 11. If we find ourselves missing the rule, we can always ask Rhet Cahn to add these abilities in later.

Hero Points will be distributed once an hour, and can apply to all rolls (damage, healing, etc.)

How everyone handles character death:

  • Luna: Sucky for the rest of the session, okayish next session. Help I have to think of a new concept.

  • Oskar: Sob for approx 30min and will be over it.

  • Mark: If they die they die, if it's funny it's great.

  • Boaz: Don't mind, ah damn is trumped by NEW ONE.

  • Justin: Shit happens, don't meme in the same session.

When a character hits a state in which they would permanently die, the player may then make a decision on what happens to the character. From kidnapping to just dying.

D&D 5e vs. PF2e

  • PF is less forgiving in healing. The party will rely on Treat Wounds for recovering HP.

  • Small numbers matter. There is no bounded accuracy, instead you will progress partly based on level. A +1 is much more useful in PF than it is in D&D.

  • Attacking as many times as possible isn't efficient, unless your character is built for it. Other skill actions, such as Demoralise, Trip, Prepare to Aid etc. are a better use of an action than an MAP -10 Strike.

  • Party balance is much more important. PF2e is balanced around being a team game. Try to work together.

  • PF2e assumes you know what you're doing. Casters are assumed to target an enemy's lower saves for example.

  • There are no bad builds as long as you keep your Key Ability high, feel free to pick more flavour heavy options if they speak to you.

  • Hero Points! You can spend one to get Fortune on a roll, and spend all to stabilise at 0HP rather than gain dying when you go down.
