The Thres Protectorate Symposium

The Thres Protectorate Symposium is the governing body of the Protectorate, composed of appointed governors and senators tasked with overseeing the region’s affairs. Once a balanced council where decisions were made through debate and collective governance, the Symposium is now in the midst of a major political upheaval. A faction of ambitious senators and governors has successfully seized the majority power, working swiftly to secure their control by appointing allies and restructuring the system to favor their rule. However, opposition remains, and the future of the Symposium—and the Protectorate itself—is uncertain.

Goals and Motivations

The newly empowered faction seeks to reshape the Symposium into a more centralized governing body, one where policy decisions are made swiftly and efficiently without the bureaucratic delays that once plagued governance. They believe a stronger, more unified Symposium is necessary to maintain stability, especially in the wake of the King’s death and the growing influence of the monarchy’s heir.

To achieve this, they are:

  • Installing Sympathetic Governors and Senators to cement their influence.

  • Reforming Decision-Making Processes to limit the power of dissenting voices.

  • Controlling Key Resources such as military forces, trade routes, and taxation to maintain leverage.

  • Weakening Monarchical Oversight to ensure the Prince cannot interfere in their governance.

While they have made significant progress, their success is not guaranteed. Opposition factions still hold sway, and many within the Protectorate resist the changes, fearing a move toward authoritarian rule.

History

The Symposium was initially formed as an advisory body, composed of governors and senators appointed to ensure effective governance in the King’s absence. Over time, political divisions grew within the council, with factions forming based on differing visions for the Protectorate’s future.

Following the King’s death, a coalition of senators and governors orchestrated a political coup within the Symposium, securing the majority and using their newfound power to push through sweeping changes. While they have made strides in consolidating control, they face resistance from entrenched opposition leaders, many of whom refuse to recognize the legitimacy of their rule. The monarchy itself, under the Prince, has yet to fully react, leaving the balance of power hanging in uncertainty.

Rules and Tenents

The Symposium is now guided by a philosophy of decisive governance, prioritizing stability and efficiency over prolonged debate. Decision-making has been restructured to favor swift action, with loyal governors and senators expected to align with the ruling faction’s policies. While traditional democratic structures remain on paper, dissenting voices are gradually being sidelined through procedural changes and strategic appointments.

Membership within the governing faction requires absolute commitment to their cause. Those who fail to support key initiatives risk losing their positions or being reassigned to less influential roles. However, the ruling faction must tread carefully—too heavy-handed an approach could spark outright rebellion within the Protectorate.

Membership

Who Joins?

  • Loyal Governors and Senators who believe in centralized governance and strong leadership.

  • Military Commanders who support a more decisive ruling body over the slow-moving traditional system.

  • Trade Leaders and Influential Families who align with the faction for economic and political advantages.

Allegiance and Commitment
Members of the ruling faction must demonstrate loyalty by supporting key policies and advocating for the continued restructuring of the Symposium. Dissent is tolerated to an extent, but those who oppose major initiatives may find themselves removed from influential positions.

Compensation and Benefits
Loyalists gain influence, secure government positions, and enjoy access to economic and political opportunities. However, they also bear the responsibility of maintaining order and ensuring the continued legitimacy of the faction’s rule.

Hierarchy

The Symposium's structure has been altered to reinforce the ruling faction’s control:

  • The High Convenor – The de facto leader of the ruling faction, responsible for setting legislative agendas and ensuring policies are enacted efficiently.

  • The Central Council – A core group of the most influential senators and governors, who oversee appointments and policy enforcement.

  • Regional Governors – Leaders appointed to oversee territories, with recent reshuffling ensuring that many are aligned with the ruling faction.

  • Legislative Senators – Lawmakers within the Symposium, some of whom remain independent while others have been co-opted into the faction’s vision.

  • Military and Trade Officials – Key figures who control resources and enforce policies, playing a crucial role in maintaining order during the transition.
