Cryptexes are small magical storage devices locked with a combination lock that opens upon entering a word in a language unknown to any character. They are very rare, and vary in colors, materials, and age. They also vary in lock strength: some only have a password of 5 characters, while another might require 10 characters.
Only two cryptexes have been opened, and they each contained a letter with a message written in the same, unknown language. These cryptexes have been found before the portals reactivated, indicating that either they are not linked to the portals, or that there are/were hidden portals in the Mountains of the Unknown.
Guilds at the TEZ can help decode them. For a fee, of course. A small hint costs starts at 10 favor coins. So remind your DM to give them out!
