Aftermath
Vita, Naomi, and Thalga are imprisoned following the chaos at the Temple of the Undecided, arrested for trespassing after unintentionally awakening a dormant Subjurforged.
The awakened construct nearly kills Tayleon before Rose intervenes and saves his life.
Despite surviving, Tayleon is left in the House of Healing with a worsening spiritual affliction: his body turns gray, and conventional healing magic fails to affect him.
Kaedlin secretly visits the imprisoned students, warning them that Einar’s secrecy is far more dangerous than it appears. She explicitly warns of mind-wiping and vanishing memories, urging them to “Find the Mirror” before it is too late.
The students realize that uncovering the truth may put them in greater danger than the creature they were forced to destroy.
Vita’s Disappearance & The Edge
While in the prison, Vita finally processes what happened when she disappeared during the battle... Vita re-experiences the missing time that felt far longer than a momentary lapse.
She is pulled into a strange, isolated realm bathed in an unnatural purple glow, completely cut off from allies and reality.
The realm consists of floating islands suspended over an endless void, with gravity behaving inconsistently. Vita encounters four Swarmers identical to those depicted in a museum painting, confirming the creatures are real.
Her magic does not function at all in this place, leaving her defenseless. She attempts to flee between islands, discovering she can almost float across gaps due to distorted gravity.
The Swarmers pursue relentlessly, ignoring her pleas.
Vita draws her dagger despite lacking training, but her desperate attack fails.
The Swarmers overwhelm her, striking her simultaneously with brutal force.
As panic peaks, a blue spark of light pierces through all four creatures’ heads, destroying them. One Swarmers manages to scratch Vita’s arm before vanishing into smoke.
A lionfolk woman with a large bow emerges from the fog, identifying herself as Yssara.
A glowing blue light shines from Yssara’s chest, matching the spark that saved Vita.
Yssara explains they are at “The Edge,” the edge of existence itself. Neither understands how Vita arrived there, though Yssara wonders if she came from “the other side.”
Before Vita can learn more, she is abruptly pulled back to her prison cell.
Vita’s Mark & Lingering Effects
Back in her cell, Vita notices a long purple scar or vein running up her arm, which she had not felt or seen before. The mark does not hurt initially and resembles the same shade of purple associated with Einar.
Vita realizes only she can see the mark; Naomi and Thalga cannot perceive it at all.
The mark later reacts painfully when Vita experiences guilt, fear, or hears the hissing sound.
The hissing resembles a snake-like noise previously encountered and forgotten until Rose reminded them.
Vita begins to suspect a connection between the mark, The Edge, and the creatures they faced.
Prison Cell Conversations
Vita explains her disappearance vaguely, emphasizing confusion, terror, and strangeness without revealing details. They avoid specifics, fearing guards may be listening.
Naomi focuses the group on survival, discussing trials, stewards, and possible expulsion.
Kaedlin’s earlier visit and sudden departure reinforce that something larger is being hidden.
The group notes the grim irony that prison may currently be the safest place for them.
Vita is overwhelmed by guilt for touching the Subjurforged and nearly killing Tayleon.
She questions whether she deserves imprisonment, recalling Viða trapped in ice.
Thalga and Naomi reassure her that they all chose to fight and prevented a far greater disaster.
Rose & Duke Slippington
Rose wakes alone in her dormitory, emotionally exhausted from the previous day.
Duke Slippington, Aiden’s penguin familiar, appears at her door searching for Naomi.
Rose feeds Duke magically flavored fish biscuits and plays with him using Dancing Lights.
Rose notices the fire scorches to her hair and cuts away the burnt ends herself.
Rose & Esme in the Cafeteria
Rose eats breakfast alone, acutely aware of her friends’ absence.
Esme approaches awkwardly, asking if she offended Rose previously.
Esme struggles unnaturally with cutlery, as if unfamiliar with basic social habits.
She claims her origin as “The Sevenfold Commonwealth,” naming an entire continent instead of a place. Esme admits she chose her own name, further unsettling Rose...
When Rose mentions Kall-Carie, Esme’s becomes uncomfortable.
Rose involuntarily relives traumatic memories of loss and disappearance.
Rose secretly casts Detect Magic, and she sees a serene spirit floating behind Esme, glowing with blue light similar to Gilgamesh. The spirit becomes aware that Rose can see her.
Esme abruptly leaves once the spirit informs her of this.
Aiden, Maria, and the Covenant
Duke leads Rose to Aiden’s dormitory.
A woman who calls herself Cinnamon exits Aiden’s room provocatively.
She tells Rose that friends address her as Maria.
Rose briefly misunderstands the situation before learning Maria is Aiden’s sister.
Aiden explains Sentinels were active throughout the city, prompting Maria to stay with him for safety.
Rose emotionally collapses, confessing fear, guilt, exhaustion, and doubts about her worth.
Aiden secures the room with a magical privacy barrier.
She admits resentment toward her mother and despair over finding her sister Snow.
Aiden comforts her, he reveals the Covenant, a group opposing dangerous truth suppression. Einar can read minds within thirty feet, forcing Covenant members to keep distance. Memories—and people—vanish if truths surface improperly.
Aiden gives Rose his Sanctarubis, sacrificing his own protection.
He offers to introduce her to the Covenant; Rose agrees.
Aiden mentions Esme’s strange affinity for Meddoh the Merrow at the Howling Reserve.
Askdyrnir's arrival
Askdyrnir arrives unexpectedly.
Aiden addresses him as “master,” revealing deeper hierarchy.
Rose feels a cold mental intrusion and hears an eager, unknown voice.
"Come on! I want to tell him!"
Askdyrnir reminds Rose to attend training at nine.
After he leaves, Aiden asks Rose on a future date.
Rose accepts, hopeful despite everything.
Morning in the Prison
Cells open after an “arcane mishap,” likely tied to Kaedlin’s interference.
Prisoners meet properly over breakfast. Gilliam is revealed as the owner of the Howling Reserve. Loras is a snake charmer who resents the city’s ban on snakes.
Loras claims lizardfolk are also banned, which conflicts with what the ladies know.
Gilliam reacts bitterly when Aiden and the Howling Reserve are mentioned.
Gilliam’s Decline
Naomi remembers what Aiden told earlier, Gilliam lost his wife, hand, and custody of his child three years earlier. He abandoned the Reserve, leaving Lizz and Loric to manage it alone, but Loric was later turned to stone. Gilliam has been drowning himself in grief and alcohol.
Strange Prison Phenomena
Naomi discovers she can partially overcome anti-magic wards using water magic.
Thalga finds a book, and begins reading The Lady of the Lake.
Naomi and Vita encounter an invisible presence repelling the steam in the showers.
The entity flees when almost struck with a soap bar.
Gilliam suddenly becomes even more agressive, and Argent instructs all the prisoners to return to their cells.
Naomi and the girls tell Argent about the purple glow in Gilliam’s eyes.
Naomi accidentally mentions that there was 'something' in the showers.
Argent opens her cell, and Naomi is escorted away for questioning.
Rose Chooses Tayleon
Rose skips training and travels to the House of Healing.
Prince Solaris II explains Tayleon’s body has healed but his spirit is failing.
He explains that Tayleon’s “spark” is dimming toward extinction.
Prince Solaris II admits limits to his power, and that Einar may be able to help.
Rose and Solaris II discuss "love as a choice" stronger than "faith".
Rose requests to honor Harmonia’s Last Law to summon Tayleon’s family.
Prince Solaris II agrees to Rose's requests, and proposes immediate sundial travel.
Sundial Journey
Rose agrees, learn the sundial travel requires blood.
She cuts her palm on the sundial’s edge and lets her blood fall onto the blade.
Sunlight strikes the blood, activating a powerful conjuration spell.
Rose feels her body dissolve into warm, radiant light.
The sensation is disorienting but not painful, like being carried upward by brilliance.
Moments later, her form reassembles atop a distant, ancient sundial stained with layers of dried blood. The sight makes clear how often this Sundial has been used and what it costs.
Prince Solaris II reveals his true name is Vulcaron, admitting “Solaris” is only a title.
He confesses guilt over the events that nearly killed his father, despite not even being born.
Prince Solaris II explains that a celebration in his honor drew a cult’s attack.
Though others saved King Anwar Orpaz, the prince still feels responsible for the aftermath.
Leónopolis & Tayleon’s Family
After descending the mountain, they secretly contact the Sentinels to avoid attention.
The prince sends a discreet message through a drake courier.
Rose and the prince are escorted to the Southern District and the Gilded Hoplite Hearth.
Upon seeing the prince, Ameena, Tayleon's sister-in-law recognizes him instantly.
Her expression shifts to concern, sensing something is terribly wrong.
Leander returns from errands and immediately feels the tension.
Rose explains Tayleon is gravely ill, she stresses that there is still hope, but time is running out. Ameena agrees to leave at once, without hesitation or questions.
