A maester is a highly educated scholar, healer, and advisor trained at The High Citadel to serve Llithe. Often called "Knights of the Mind," they provide expertise in history, science, and medicine, wearing a heavy chain of various metal links to represent their mastery of different subjects. As they master new subjects, they add new metal links to their chains, which they wear at all times, studying subjects like Healing (silver), Harvest (black iron), and Economics (gold). They act as doctors, pharmacists, and scholars, typically focusing on rational study over magic due to the appearance of the Tower draining the land of Mana.
The main councilmen of the Maesters are called the Custodes, as the clean/cleanse Llithe from evil.
