A planetary warehouse and waystation, transformed by the Nation in to the political and administrative heart of a firm revolutionary bastion.

Heimat (its previous name annihilated from memory) was founded by the Empire as an outer-solar Waystation. Mining on Kitezh and Svarog was all well and good, but the sheer ease of harvesting far-solar asteroids and efficiency of refining them on-site meant the natural decision was made to establish a distant colony, far away from the inner core of Svarog, Buyan, Vineta, and Kitezh.

And so came Heimat, and the rest is history.

Its origin as little more than a layover for inner-system materials is clear if one knows where to look; the multiple, highly-localized space elevators, efficient inner logistical network... for all its changes and 'revolutionizing,' the Empire's touch still lingers. Much of the Imperial-era architecture has been annihilated, sans a few scant aristocratic estates on the outer-edge of its central arcology, stated to remain as a 'symbol of how far the Nation has come.'

All aspects of the Nation's upper administration are found on Heimat; ORON, VGON, and the Great Revolutionary and Her Daughter all operate from Heimat, and accordingly its touch and influence permeate every inch of the planet.

Despite its nature as the Nation's capital, however, there is much less industry than one may expect- on the ground, at least. So much of the heavy production transferred instead to the likes of Rotfront and Leng, leaving Heimat to focus on matters of direction, policy, and proper guidance. As it was meant to be.

Except for in orbit. As a waystation, Heimat was constructed with great orbital shipyards to fabricate and repair all manner of spacefaring vessels, and those same shipyards now form the core of the Volksmarine, as the complexity (and danger) of even attempting to transfer them elsewhere render such a task both undesirable and futile.

What industry does remain is primarily centered on agriculture and consumer goods; ensuring that the planetary populace does not go without either food, water, or 'necessities.' Unlike Rotfront, Heimat was established during the time of the Empress and so already had the luxury of being fully terraformed and inhabited by Vinetan animal and plant species', ensuring that while difficult, self-sufficiency would not be insurmountable.

It is a cold place, in temperature and temperament. So far from the light of the Sun and so bound to the Nation's technocratic dogma, most from Heimat find themselves taking on that same coldness in one way or another, as the Nation is not one to easily brook those who are 'different' from its desires.
