Dark and empty are the skies of Leng, stoic and austere are its people. Little news leaves this place, but its material harvesting and refining makes up a key portion of the Nation's backbone.
Originally little more than a means of hopefully avoiding the broad bombardment of Heimat's industrial refining sectors (as occasionally happened during the chaos of the early Revolution), Leng was constructed (and then rapidly metamorphized) in to a place to send dissidents for 're-education.'
It has remained as-such, though it has steadily evolved something of its own civilian class, as even with the now massively expanded population and judiciary of the Nation, there are simply not enough dissidents to fill every foundry and metallurgical plant. The Gestalts here work within its bureaucratic core and 'high-tech' industries that would be far too dangerous for so-called dissidents to be employed in, and they do their jobs with the grim awareness of just how thankless and critical it is.
Replika exist across all bounds of Leng; its civil bureaucracy, health sector, and re-education camps. The famed (and locally infamous) Sierpinski Array act as the beating heart of the Lengish dynamic; independently operating mining-refining-production work and re-education camps that kill their way through Replika and dissidents with polite satisfaction in their efficiency. The munitions are generally of lower-scale and technology, but in extreme volume come the bullets and artillery shells that help keep the Volksmilitar running. Across all of Leng's industries, the Array included, over forty-five percent of the Nation's ammunition is forged.
What luxury and consumer goods are imported from Rotfront often form the highlight of civilian weeks, done to preserve morale and allow continued stability by its shadowy upper leadership. The broader Nation never hears much of Leng and its goings-on; its ships, marked with its black triangle, come and go with rote repetition and no associated fanfare, ensuring that the Nation's industrial complex can continue trucking on.
And that quietness is exactly as the Lengish government likes it; free and unwatched to do as they might wish.
