Slashers are agile, feathered pack predators found throughout Veyrath’s jungles, tall-grass prairies, and dense temperate forests. Standing roughly chest-high to an adult human, they possess powerful hind limbs, grasping forelimbs, a long balancing tail, and a massive recurved claw on the second toe of each foot. They are highly intelligent and social, typically living in coordinated packs of five to twelve animals that communicate through clicks, hoots, hisses, and body posture.

Slashers hunt through concealment and coordination. Pack members spread through vegetation, pressure prey toward concealed attackers, and strike from several directions once escape has been restricted. Their characteristic killing attack consists of leaping onto or alongside prey and using the enlarged toe claws to inflict deep, rapidly bleeding wounds. Humans fall comfortably within their normal prey range, making Slashers one of the most persistent hazards faced by loggers, surveyors, telegraph crews, and other travellers beyond regularly patrolled settlements.
