House Jorasco — Services & Prices

"The healer will see you now. She'll start with questions — when did this begin, what have you tried, have you traveled recently. Then she'll examine you. Her hands will be warm; that's the mark. If she decides you need magical care, she'll explain the procedure, the components, and the cost. If you can't afford it, she'll treat you with conventional medicine — and the conventional medicine will be good, because she trained at the same guild school either way. You'll walk out feeling better. You'll also walk out with a bill. That's Jorasco."

Mark: Healing | Guild: Healer's Guild | Symbol: The Griffon

House Jorasco bears the Mark of Healing and serves as Khorvaire's foremost authority on medicine, magical and mundane alike. Its houses of healing are found throughout the Five Nations — from major urban enclaves to frontier clinics and the teaching facilities of Resthold in Vedykar. The Last War ensured there was no shortage of patients. The peace has not reduced that number.

Most Jorasco healers are not clerics. They are magewrights — specialists whose intense focus on a narrow set of spells allows them to cast those spells as rituals that others cannot reliably replicate. A Jorasco magewright casting lesser restoration spends roughly an hour in work and consumes material components worth up to 40 gp. The ritual is not passive chanting. It is medical practice with magic layered into it: the healer uses divining rods and Irian salves where another surgeon might use instruments, beginning with a foundation of mundane skill and adding arcane force to achieve what skill alone cannot. Remove curse is not a mumbled incantation that ends with a flash of light — it is a form of mystical surgery, the healer literally carving the cursed influence out of the patient's aura. Different diseases require different components, which means a Jorasco clinic can exhaust its supply for a specific condition. Refined Eberron dragonshards can substitute for most components in a pinch, but in an isolated village, residuum may be harder to find than Mabaran moss.

Services are available to anyone with the means to pay. If you have the gold, lesser restoration can remove a disease instantly. If you do not, Jorasco healers will treat you with mundane techniques. The house will not leave you to die on the doorstep — but it will present you with a bill on the way out.

Prices are listed in gold pieces (gp) unless otherwise noted. Costs may increase for urgency, hostile field conditions, rare or specialized material components, or senior review.

What House Jorasco Will and Won't Do

The house will: Provide medical services to any paying patient regardless of nationality, faction, or the circumstances of their injury. Treat soldiers from opposing armies with equal professional care. Provide mundane treatment to patients who cannot afford magical services. Maintain strict patient confidentiality. Perform raise dead at major enclaves, subject to augury and senior approval.

The house will not: Guarantee the outcome of resurrection — augury is cast first, and if the divination indicates looming disaster, the service is refused, regardless of the client's gold or station. Offer mark-assisted services through unlicensed practitioners — unlicensed provision of Jorasco-branded healing is a serious offense against the house. Extend credit without a formal debt contract. Provide services in direct support of operations the house judges to be a threat to civilian life or its own neutrality.

The house reserves the right to: Require payment or contractual obligation before treatment in non-emergency cases. Refuse cases beyond its capabilities without penalty. Require specialist review for planar, daelkyr, or divine afflictions before committing to treatment.

HOUSE JORASCO — PATIENT INTAKE NOTICE All patients presenting for magical treatment will undergo consultation with a licensed Healer's Guild practitioner prior to commencement of care. Treatment plans, required components, and associated costs will be discussed in full. House Jorasco cannot guarantee outcomes for procedures involving 4th-level effects or higher; divination will be performed at house expense to assess risk in such cases. Payment is due upon completion of service. Patients unable to afford magical treatment will be offered mundane care at reduced cost. No patient will be refused emergency stabilization. "We heal because we can. We charge because we must."

I. Mark-Assisted Healing Services (Magical Care)

These services require a licensed bearer of the Mark of Healing and are performed at Jorasco enclaves, licensed clinics, or approved field facilities. Magewright spells are cast as extended rituals with a minimum casting time of one hour. Each casting consumes refined Eberron dragonshards and additional material components; the house charges clients at minimum twice its baseline component cost. Specialized, planar, or mark-enhanced cases command higher rates.

The Mark of Healing provides an intuitive sense of the nature of maladies — an instinctive awareness of what is wrong and what it will take to correct it. A marked healer working through a lesser restoration ritual is performing a form of arcane surgery: detecting the shape of the disease, curse, or wound, and applying the precise magical force needed to excise it. The mark is what makes the diagnosis reliable. It is what separates a trained Jorasco chirurgeon from a skilled but unguided practitioner — and it is why Jorasco can charge what it charges.

Material components for resurrection are charged separately at market rates. The 1,000 gp component cost listed in the sourcebook represents baseline materials under ideal conditions; the house does not absorb this cost.

Understanding the tiers. Minor and major nonmagical care are available at any Jorasco facility and represent the vast majority of patient visits. Cure wounds and lesser restoration are available at most houses of healing with a marked practitioner on staff. Remove curse is more demanding — the healer is performing a procedure on the patient's magical aura, and not every magewright has the precision required. Greater restoration is a 5th-level effect, beyond the standard wide magic available in the Five Nations; only Jorasco's finest enclaves have senior mark-bearers capable of performing it. And raise dead is available at precisely two confirmed sites in Khorvaire.

Divine curses, daelkyr corruption, and planar afflictions require specialist review and are not guaranteed outcomes. Battlefield or hostile-zone care incurs a hazard surcharge.

On Resurrection

Raise dead is only available at major enclaves — the Panaceum in Dragon Towers (Sharn) and Resthold (Vedykar) are the two confirmed sites in Khorvaire with an altar of resurrection. The Panaceum performs augury before any attempt; if the divination indicates looming disaster, the request is refused.

The house does not conceal the full range of risks. A spirit must want to return, and the longer it remains in Dolurrh, the more it falls under the sway of ennui — memory fading, the will to return fading with it. Even a willing spirit is not always recoverable. A resurrection may attract a marut. The wrong spirit may return. Hostile shades may escape from Dolurrh alongside the intended soul. Most religions hold that raising the dead defies the natural order. Being raised is about more than having the coin — even nobles may find the attempt fails.

"I understand your grief. I share it. But my duty is to the living as well as the dead, and the augury was clear. I will not open that door. I am sorry." — A Jorasco senior healer, declining a resurrection request. The client's identity is not recorded.

II. Mundane & Clinical Care

Jorasco is the leading medical authority in Khorvaire even without spellcasting. The house's chirurgeons, herbalists, and alchemical staff provide care that saves lives without magic — and this is not a lesser service. The vast majority of Khorvaire's population will never need magical healing. They need a professional who knows how to set a broken bone, treat a fever, manage an infection, and ensure that recovery proceeds without complications. The house is the primary reason that ordinary Khorvairians survive injuries that would have been fatal in earlier centuries.

Cosmetic and transitional services are available at select Jorasco clinics where a qualified magewright specialist is on staff. The house does not perform the kind of wholesale physical transformation available from the Tyrants of Tavick's Landing — Jorasco's remit covers medical and transitional work, not identity concealment.

Amnesiac Treatment (Resthold Only)

A small magical lake within Resthold's walled enclave produces waters that, when bathed in at dawn, leave the bather nearly entirely amnesiac — basic skills intact, personal memories gone. This service is unique to Resthold and available nowhere else in Khorvaire. It is an extreme measure. The house requires a formal consultation and contract before the treatment is administered, and the decision to proceed is made jointly by the patient and a senior healer.

Demand has risen sharply since the end of the war and the lifting of travel restrictions. Most patients are veterans. The house does not discuss specific cases.

III. Alchemical Supplies & Potions

House Jorasco is the dominant producer of potions of healing in Khorvaire — ninety percent of potions on the market are either made by the house or produced to its specifications, giving Jorasco near-total control over the healing potion trade. The house also produces antivenom, alchemical sedatives, and specialty reagents for its own chirurgical use; some are available for retail purchase.

The house maintains two distinct product lines. Military contracts produced potions known as "coppers" — named for the metallic taste of the fluid, clearly labeled for accurate battlefield administration. A Brelish soldier would call a superior potion of healing a "copper-3." Civilian equivalents are sold under brand names like "Vivacity," bottled in a variety of flavors and marketed to wealthier districts with an eye toward the customer's comfort as much as their survival. The magic is identical. The packaging is not.

Common magic items in Khorvaire are priced in the 20–80 gp range. Potions of healing fall within this band. Unlicensed healing potions sold by unaffiliated vendors are not subject to Jorasco quality standards; the house does not certify their safety and declines responsibility for adverse effects. If you buy a healing potion without the griffon emblem on the label, you are taking your chances.

"Feeling worn down? Perhaps you've had a little fall? Get back on your feet with a shot of Vivacity!" — Jorasco civilian product advertisement, overheard in Upper Menthis

IV. Mark-Assisted Focus Items

The focus item associated with the Mark of Healing is the Jora charm — a periapt of wound closure variant at common rarity, requiring the Mark of Healing to function. The charm stabilizes a dying creature and prevents ongoing blood loss, channeling the mark's restorative energy to hold the patient's body together while proper treatment is prepared. Like all dragonmark focus items, Jora charms are produced exclusively by House Cannith and the Twelve, distributed only through house channels, and not available for commercial purchase. Any Jora charm seen outside these channels has almost certainly changed hands improperly.

At the Siberys tier, the Altar of Resurrection is the only named Greater Siberys focus item associated with the Mark of Healing. It is a large, permanent installation — not a portable object — and the instrument through which the house's most powerful healers perform raise dead. The altars at the Panaceum and Resthold are such pieces. These altars are not bought or commissioned. They are among the rarest artifacts in the house's possession, and their locations are closely held. The existence of an altar at a given enclave is not publicly advertised — though in practice, adventurers and the wealthy tend to know which enclaves can perform resurrection and which cannot.

V. Field Clinics & Emergency Response

House Jorasco embedded healers in every nation's army during the Last War and continues to provide field medical support under contract. The house's record of professional neutrality — treating soldiers from opposing sides without distinction — was formalized under the Treaty of Thronehold, which affords Jorasco clinics protected status as medical sites. This is both a legal protection and a practical one: no army wants to destroy the clinic that might be treating its own soldiers tomorrow.

Field hospitals coordinate security separately — the house does not provide armed protection and directs clients to House Deneith for escort contracts. House Sivis handles public notices and communications during outbreak response. The house will not enter active combat zones without a security guarantee. A Jorasco healer is a medical professional, not a combat medic — though many who served in the Last War learned to operate under fire regardless of policy.

VI. Hirelings & Medical Staff

All Jorasco-certified staff operate under Healer's Guild standards. Guild certification is the mark of legitimate training; practitioners who claim Jorasco credentials without certification are operating outside the house's sanction and should be treated with appropriate skepticism.

The services of a dragonmarked hireling for one day is also a recognized favor-tier that the house can extend to those who have done it significant service — a day of free healing is one of the most valuable favors in Khorvaire, and the house knows it.

Jorasco hirelings cannot be directed to perform illegal work, act against house interests, or treat patients in circumstances the house has formally declared off-limits. A medic hired for a mercenary contract retains the right to treat wounded from any side — this is not negotiable, and clients who attempt to restrict it will find their contract terminated.
