"In the Sands of Time, a Realm Unveiled,

Where Dragons Reign and Fortunes Scaled.

Through Shifting Dunes, Secrets Abide,

The Desert's Tapestry, Trade's Endless Tide.

The Sea of Sand, our mother wise,

Will ever help our people rise."

-Unknown nomad poet

Though the cities of the The Triad Dragon Emirates of Avanar are dense and bustling, the remaining land is barren, empty, and filled with sand. Due to a war with the Dwarves many years ago, a large amount of sand got discarded in the region of the Domus Heartland. Due to volcanic activity beneath the ground, the sand is always heated to the point where one would be able to fry an egg if one carried a pan. This stretch of rocks and sand is the largest uninterrupted region of land on the continent and serves many purposes, including the gatekeeping of trade, a buffer to fend off invasions, and a place for excavations of the old empire. The area itself is mainly desert, with orange to red rocks littering the landscape, jutting out like jagged nails. Oases are very rare in these lands, and the only water found is usually in the craters of old volcanoes.

Food production is almost impossible, with only some grasses and mosses able to withstand the heat and drought. The food chain in this region is completely based on the purple worms that burrow beneath these lands. When they travel they leave behind a nutritious excretion which they create from the minerals in the sand. This rises to the surface over the course of years and is then eaten by the few creatures who roam the desert, at times including wandering tribes of Goblin and Tabaxi.

The Sea of Sand is inhabited by many species but in particular the Goblin and the nomadic Catfolk tribes who travel the large expanse in search of a place to keep their elephants and camels, a patch of freshwater, and the food they need to survive. These tribes are usually very heavily knit together, but at times someone does get tired of the constant danger and decides to take residence in one of the larger cities. The Goblin tribes usually find refuge in large dead volcanic tunnels, which are usually significantly cooler than the surrounding area. These tunnels can harbor tribes of tens of thousands, and subside off of mushrooms and cave critters, which they farm. The Catfolk live in the desert itself, roaming endlessly with their mounts. Some myths even tell of a brave Catfolk who tamed a great purple worm the size of cities with the intention of taking over one of the cities.
