“I think if...I mean, if we can...aw man, I just had it.”

Description

Most days, Hisashi finds it best to simply go with the flow. Why rack the brain over today’s problems when you can instead enjoy personal indulgences and simply wait them out? Hisashi approaches many of life’s experiences with a very particular nonchalance that may induce an eyeroll or two in those forced to interact with him…if they don’t just disregard him outright. He occasionally finds himself looking out at the Tachibana estate, wondering if there is anything for him inside. Yet whether it be someone’s disregard or his own fruitless concerns, they are all equally fleeting moments, out as quickly as the cloudleaf goes in.

History

Hisashi’s father, Takao Tachibana, nurtured a growing obsession with prolonging his life, which peaked around the time Shan Lian died, in 2961. Such a prominent death was the push he needed to finally seek drastic measures, ensuring that his obsession became a reality. Takao made a bargain with something out of the Yūreimori for an imported curse, turning himself into a jiang-shi. With renewed vigor, he moved from Southbank to Northridge soon after the lumber era began in 2967, married a woman named Asami, and had Hisashi in 2970. Though Takao did not officially cut ties with the rest of the Tachibana family, he becomes estranged with this move North and his odd and unexpected change in behavior.

Amira passes around the time the Severing occurs, and Takao takes the opportunity to leave with the lumber lords, leaving Hisashi alone in Northridge. Not long after, Hisashi decides to move to Southbank, taking a house near the Tachibana estate, though he never interacts much with the family (in reality, his sight is a sore reminder of his father and best ignored). He instead spends much of his time with the elf herbalist, Yeo Su-Min, who takes pity on him and sees him as a prospective apprentice...if only he'd apply himself more instead of spending his days simply drinking tea and taking drugs. When she does get through to him, he studies, makes alchemical elixirs (or bombs for entertainment), and finds ways to actually help.
