Cradlekin Statues

What they are:

Waist-high stone statues of small, round-bodied fey guardians, scattered across Eirendor and woven into its culture for as long as anyone can remember.

The look:

A round chubby body, oversized pointed ears, wide childlike eyes, dense Celtic knotwork, and moss and vines grown into every groove.

What folk believe:

They are sacred guardians tied to the Feywild, the realm from which the Cradlekin are thought to originate.

Good omen:

Glimpsing a Cradlekin on a journey is lucky; ignoring or disrespecting one is thought to invite calamity.

The offerings:

Villagers leave flowers, berries, and handmade trinkets at their bases for protection, good fortune, and bountiful crops.

The caretakers:

A nomadic tribe of elves is said to wander Eirendor tending the statues, and their arrival in a village is welcomed as a blessing.

No one remembers who first carved them, or when. Scattered through Eirendor's forests, glades, and ancient ruins stand the Cradlekin, small round-bodied figures of grey stone, big-eared and wide-eyed and mossy, wrapped in Celtic knotwork. The folk of the land tie them to the Feywild and hold them sacred, leaving offerings at their feet and telling their children never to pass one without a nod of respect.

The statues appear throughout Eirendor's legends, almost always as silent guardians of the land.
