9th Day of Early Winter

Been a while since I have written anything down, but most of the time since we explored the ruined library was very uneventful and boring, just fixing coats and jackets at the guild, there was no point to write anything down.

A Lennox-esque Cat person named Thurl helped translate the notes we found over the last weeks. Good guy, knows a lot of stories about dragons. But the notes sent us chasing after another, allegedly specifcally shadowy, phantom at some orcs place, I bet somebody just flubbed on their torch rotation and let one fizzle out overnight… I didn’t think I would be back to doing stale everyday businness, like cleaning up shadow infestations after leaving the valley, but at least it’s more exciting than sewing patches over holes.

Anyway, so we have been on the road these last two days, the first was mostly uneventful, just met a giant talking crow, traded some shiny trinkets for useful trinkets with it, then got robbed by racoons overnight. It scares me a little that I consider this mostly uneventful at this point.

In the morning today the nightwatch pointed out a change in flora ahead of us, the jungles the orcs live in, so we at least knew we were going in the right direction. Dylle and Lennox where also whispering about some critter they spotted at night, but it was probably just another racoon. Boring, didn’t pay attention.

The inhabitants of this forest apparently have a strange habit of just abandoning stuff in the wilds. First we just randomly stumbled across a literal bookcase in the middle of the woods. I guess the magicy folks were happy because there were magicy trinkets inside. Boring, didn’t pay attention.

Then we found a scrap of paper, apparently a map, that showed a shortcut or something. Boring, didn’t pay attention.

Next up were some ruins, no ghosts or undead critters around though, this forest is seriously strange. At the center was a large wolflike statue and Seeker had some wishful thoughts about it being his father. Once more I do not have the heart to tell him he is not a real dog, or a wolf for that matter. The rest then went ahead, trying to read some runes and I think performing some ancient ritual stuff for the statue. Boring, didn’t pay attention.

Towards the evening we reached the jungle and encountered some giant non-talking beetles. Or at least I assume so, nobody tried to strike up a conversation with one. At least the berries around here, Seeker found some, are quite tasty, didn’t even cause any stomach cramping or funky lights to appear.

We then tucked in for the night, but my rest was fairly short as I woke up to Lennox screaming during the process of being eaten by a giant non-talking wolf, or so I assume again, maybe Seeker just insulted it somehow by declaring it his parent again.

The situation was absolutely infuriating. I go and buy super expensive and really shiny armor and then the guys have the guts to pick a fight during the night? I’m not wearing it sleeping! What is the point of spending all that money if we don’t use it during fights?!

Well, we still managed to dispatch the giant wolf and his underlings in a painful and bloody fight. That is why I started writing this; to calm me down enough to maybe fall asleep again, so I’ll try tucking back in now. At least my armor is still clean.
