Classes in Kantas

Artificer

  1. Creating a magic item requires something to enchant e.g. you can’t make plate out of nothing; you need to buy it, then enchant it.

  2. The item does not disappear after 4 days, it just loses its enchantment.

  3. When an artificer wishes to Transmute an effect on a magic item into a different one, they must have the base item to transfer the magic into.

  4. If using the Replicate magic item feature ability, Artificers can only create items up to a value of 500GP x their level based on the values in the Kantas Price Guide e.g. at level 2 they can create an item worth up to 1000GP.

  5. 5.5e Artificers can now share items with the party.

Backgrounds in Kantas

Custom Backgrounds

Custom Backgrounds are legal. You can do this in D&DBeyond and we have allowed this in Kantas.

Ravenloft: The Horrors Within

The following Backgrounds are not Kantas legal:

  • Haunted One

  • Investigator

  • Mist Warden

  • Spirit Medium

Species in Kantas

Custom Lineages

Custom Lineages are not legal. Given the volume of players and characters, this would introduce too much chaos for the DM team to manage at present!

Reborn

Unless cleared with a Kantas Worldbuilder, Reborn in the Kantas campaign will be exclusively the Immortal from Brimgeist.

Warforged

Unless cleared with a Kantas Worldbuilder, Warforged in the Kantas campaign will be exclusively the Forged from Brimgeist.

Feats in Kantas

Cartomancer

The Cartomancer feat from The Book of Many Things is not Kantas-legal.

Lucky

Given the contained one-shot nature of the Kantas Expanse campaign, the Lucky feat is considered to be overpowered and is therefore not allowed to be taken by player characters.

For the Backgrounds which grant this as an Origin Feat, this is replaced by another. The Merchant Background instead gains the Skilled Feat, and the Wayfarer Background instead gains the Alert Feat.

Ravenloft: The Horrors Within

The following Feats are not Kantas legal, as Dark Gifts are not a supported option in the campaign:

  • Origin Feats

    • Sharp Eye

    • Survivor

  • Dark Gifts

    • Aberrant Anatomy

    • Echoing Soul

    • Gathered Whispers

    • Living Shadow

    • Mist Walker

    • Second Skin

    • Symbiotic Being

    • Touch Of Death

    • Watchers

Items In Kantas

Firearms

Firearms are not permitted in the Kantas campaign. They will neither be accessible nor featured.

Magic In Kantas

Only a few known spells have been found to function differently when casted in Kantas. Here we report the ones documented to have unusual effects. The reasons for these differences are still largely unknown, although it is presumed that the strange quality of the area's Material Plane component plays a role in this phenomenon.

New PC Spell Adjustments

If after the first session with a new character you find that you took a permanent spell or cantrip that just isn't right in practice, you are allowed to exchange it. This is a one time deal per character after their first session.

Resurrection Penalty

Typically, there is a temporary penalty for being resurrected in 5th Edition. To accommodate this in weekly sessions, any character who is resurrected by the Raise Dead, True Resurrection or Reincarnate spell will take a -4 penalty to all Attack Rolls, Skill Checks and Saving Throws for their next session, after which the penalty will lift.

Banned Spells

The following spell(s) are banned in Kantas:

  • Dream of the Blue Veil

Adjusted Spells

Healing Spirit

Archselon's Healing Spirit on D&D Beyond

  • The spirit can heal a flat two times per round, instead of using the caster's spellcasting ability modifier.

  • The spirit cannot heal unconscious creatures.

  • The spell scales by an additional 1d4 every two levels, instead of 1d6 every level.

  • The spell lasts a maximum of four rounds, instead of one minute.

Reincarnate

Archselon's Resplendent Reincarnate on D&D Beyond

  • Replaced the standard reincarnation table with the Kantas version.

Wish

Archselon's Wonderous Wish on D&D Beyond

  • When duplicating a spell, the cost of the material components are capped at 1,000 gp.

  • For Object Creation, the cost of the item that can be created has been lowered from 25,000 to 5,000 gp.

  • The Reshape Reality option has been removed in favour of the Miraculous Recovery option.

  • The likelihood of losing the ability to cast Wish again has been reduced from 33% to 10%.
