Safety Tools and Content Guidelines

This page is a high-level summary only, for the complete list of safety tools that players and DM’s may use and all the banned/sensitive topics players and DM’s are expected to handle with care, please see the Content Guidelines & Safety Tools document.

Lines and sensitive topics

Certain topics are banned entirely from the table in Kantas, and others require sensitive handling - both of which are listed in the Content Guidelines & Safety Tools document. Lines and sensitive topics are applicable to all players, and apply on anything Kantas related (including the Forum and the Discord server).

If a DM is running a game which might contain a topic that requires sensitive handling, they will post a content warning in their Rumour post. Please take care to read the content warnings for a game so you can make an informed decision before signing up and if you have any questions, you should reach out to the DM running the game.

Safety Tools

Safety tools are a way for players and DMs to communicate and check-in before, during, and after a game in order to make sure everyone is having fun, and to provide the right support when needed. The care and well-being of everyone at the table ALWAYS comes before the game or story.

The tools we utilise in the LRC are based on the TTRPG Safety Toolkit, a resource co-curated by Kienna Shaw and Lauren Bryant-Monk which can be found here, the most frequently used being the X-Card and Veiling.

The X-Card

The X-Card can be used if anything makes a player/DM uncomfortable during a game. The player communicates to the DM or the DM communicates to the players what the issue/topic is, and the DM then takes that content out of the game or addresses behaviour at the table. The player/DM does not have to give a reason as to why something made them uncomfortable.

Veiling

Veiling is a tool that can be used if a player/DM does not mind certain content in the game but would like the player/DM to not describe it in detail or perhaps have the scene fade to black. The player/DM stops describing the thing that made the player/DM uncomfortable, but the content remains canon. Kantas players/DMs are encouraged to break the fourth wall and discuss mechanics or situations in the game at any time if they feel the need to do so.
