While every adventures has encountered beasts and even most commoners knows about their existance only a few persons ever have seen an ancient - or at least claimed so. Maybe they are actually just myths?!
(@GM: This is mainly meant in case you want some NPC in your setting/adventure to be a dragon, ent or other kind of powerful beaing to have some distinction between those and the beasts.)
