Negotiation

Negotiation

NoMaNoGe is light on rules by design. This means that there will be many situations that the rules don't account for, or are too vague to interpret in a way that makes sense. Alternatively, when you try to creatively apply a gameplay element that's not necessarily meant for it, some confusion may arise.

Whenever that's the case, try not to get bogged down by finding a perfect solution. Make a suggestion to the Conductor on how to proceed in a way that seems fair and fun to you. They will approve it or suggest an alternative. If that doesn't align with how you envision the situation in your mind, feel free to communicate that. In the end, the Conductor makes the final ruling on the manner, and for the benefit of keeping the game going, you have to respect that ruling.

Put a Pin in It

If you ever feel like you've reached an impasse, either because there are no suitable rules or you or your Conductor cannot figure out how to proceed, you may put a pin in it. This signals that you skip the situation for now to keep the game's momentum. You and your Conductor may revisit the pin together, outside of a game's session.

You can research potential rules or content to add to the Universe to prevent that same situation from happening again. You can also work together with the Conductor to resolve the pin outside of the game and inform the other players how it retroactively went down in the next session. Sometimes, this means that in-Universe events don't chronologically make sense any longer, but as long as it doesn't impact any player's fun moving forward, the pin is considered resolved.

This rule can also be applied to any in-Universe subject matter you are uncomfortable with. In that case, it's especially important to talk to your Conductor outside a session on how to handle that subject matter moving forward.
