Murkclaw’s lair is a foreboding, concealed location deep within the heart of Scalemire Fen. The entrance to the lair is cleverly hidden by powerful illusions, making it appear as nothing more than an ordinary, overgrown section of the swamp. Dense vegetation, twisted trees, and thick patches of reeds obscure the true nature of the lair’s entrance. Those who get close enough to see through the illusion may catch a glimpse of a dark, cavernous opening, partially submerged and surrounded by treacherous, murky waters. The area around the lair is marked by an eerie stillness, with fewer signs of wildlife and a palpable sense of danger.
The air near Murkclaw’s lair is heavy with the damp, earthy scent of the swamp, mixed with the pungent aroma of decaying vegetation. There is an underlying, acrid smell that hints at the presence of the black dragon, a mix of sulfur and something metallic, like the scent of blood or rust. This faint but unsettling odor sets the area apart from the rest of the fen, warning intruders of the peril that lies within.
The usual cacophony of swamp sounds is muted near Murkclaw’s lair. The croaking of frogs, the buzzing of insects, and the rustling of reeds seem distant and subdued. Instead, an eerie silence dominates the area, occasionally broken by the distant splash of something large moving through the water or the subtle hiss of steam escaping from hidden vents. This unnatural quiet, combined with the occasional ominous sounds, creates an atmosphere of tension and unease.
Known History
The entrance to the lair was discovered by a daring Mist Watch adventurer who purportedly turned invisible, rode on the dragons back, and survived the jump off right before the Black Dragon entered his lair. This adventurer was rescued by his team and they brought the information back to 'Gov, who supplied the details with the rest of the guild. 'Gov's scouts are doing their best to get as much information as they can about the area currently.
Murkclaw has been defeated by the Mist Watch.
