In pursuit of these answers, the monks study their history, preserve what traditions remain, and learn from foreign religions. Their monastery, perched upon a desolate mountain peak, mirrors their austere way of life. Far removed from the Shadowfell yet as harsh and unforgiving as its people, it is a place where resilience is forged into doctrine. In its halls, the Shadowfellians hope to define a future not bound by the shadow of their past.

History

The monastery was founded in the aftermath of Umbraxis’ death and the collapse of her oppressive reign. With the Dark Lady gone, the single cause that had united the Shadowfellians—resistance and survival under tyranny—disappeared. A spiritual vacuum spread through the people, who no longer knew what bound them together or what their destiny might be.

In this void, a group of monks gathered to preserve Shadowfellian identity and guide it toward renewal. They smuggled histories and relics out of the ruined city of Umbra, sought wisdom from scholars across Kildar, and began the long task of defining a faith uniquely their own. Over time, their mountain monastery became not only a sanctuary but also the spiritual heart of a people seeking to redefine themselves.

General layout

The Copying Room is a place of quiet labor, where monks painstakingly preserve the history of their people. Here, rescued manuscripts smuggled out of the Shadowfell are transcribed alongside accounts passed down through memory and oral tradition. Their work is directed toward a single goal: the compilation of a grand chronicle known as The History of the Endless Rebellion.

The Ceremony Room serves as a space of experimentation. Within these dim halls, monks attempt new rites and rituals, searching for practices that might one day be adopted into their growing faith. It is both a sanctum and a workshop.

The Study is the largest and most chaotic of the monastery’s chambers. Scholars from across Kildar gather here to share their knowledge of religions, rituals, and gods. Debates rise and fall with little warning, voices filling the room with passion, while parchment after parchment is covered in frantic notes and half-formed ideas.

The Dormitory provides rest for the monks, though a separate chamber with more comfortable beds is set aside for visiting guests. Hospitality is offered freely, though resources are meager.

The most secretive chamber is the Reliquary, hidden away behind wards and locks that require both magic and multiple keys to open. Within are housed sacred relics, each woven into the very history of the Shadowfellian people. These treasures are guarded with utmost reverence, for they are more than artifacts—they are fragments of identity, memory, and faith.
