Tortles see the sun and moon as twin guardians who watch over them through all
journeys. Because of this faith, they feel most comfortable under open skies and are
uneasy in caves, catacombs, or massive stone halls. Their solitary lives teach them self-
sufficiency, yet when Tortles gather, they form tightly knit circles of trust and memory-
sharing, treating the telling of life-stories as sacred rituals.
Myths and legends associated with the ethnic group.
Because Tortles only raise children once in their lives, they rarely judge unusual traits in
their offspring. A child born with strange gifts or appearances is considered the will of
the guardians. However, when many hatchlings are born at once, some families quietly
leave one behind—especially if the child is a Tiefling, Aasimar or otherwise touched by
outer powers. Despite this cruelty, Tortles are resilient by nature, and many abandoned
young survive, becoming strange and legendary figures in the world.
