Found throughout the multiverse, humans are as varied as they are numerous, and they endeavor to achieve as much as they can in the years they are given. Their ambition and resourcefulness are commended, respected and feared on many worlds.
Humans are a diverse people and they have many gods. Scholars dispute the origin of humanity, but one of the earliest known human gatherings is said to have occurred in Sigil, the torus-shaped city at the center of the multiverse and the place where the Common language was born. From there, humans could have spread to every part of the multiverse, bringing the City of Doors’ cosmopolitanism with them.
For centuries the Humans were the ruling class in Kildar. And though it had its ups and downs, relatively speaking all species were welcomed and accepted. However during the Hadarian Crisis this changed. As the Royal family fell during the implosion of Torrica and the chaos that followed the defeat of Hadar the power that ruled the lands shifted. The monarchy became a Guildocracy and the power balance shifted to a now more equally divided amount for all species.
Originally, the Humans of Kildar originated from an Island to the North West of Kildar. Hundreds of years ago, the Medvedov humans conquered Kildar through bloody conquest. Some long-lived creatures still remember those days, and they make sure that the humans of the current days don’t forget the wrongdoings of their ancestors. These original Human raiders employed superior tactics and the enraged savagery of Barbarians in their armies in order to conquer the continent.
Humans have a few holidays they value a lot, one of them being birthdays. The day of birth is seen as a day to reflect on growth and make plans for the future. Humans generally value medium to higher educated professions, from shopkeeper or teacher to doctor or lawyer. But humans also have a darker side. They are a warlike species, prone to acts of anger and fits of rage. Humans are prideful and boastful, and in old times used their excellence at warfare to secure the entirety of Kildar under their rule. To this day Humans still place high value in nobility and martial prowess, with a lot of emphasis being placed on the circumstances of an individual's birth. In addition, Humans are superstitious and innately fearful of being cursed by witches. They take great care to avoid anything that could cause them bad luck.
The humans generally worship Tyr, the God of Justice. Tyr is not only the god of Lawfulness but also the god of sacrifice and courage. His name is often invoked by humans not only in the justice system but also in the makings of deals and contracts. As the god of Justice he is often seen as a god for everyone. Both rich and poor alike follow him. He is worshiped through both daily life as people work hard in his name as well as through courageous acts, sacrificing in the name of helping others and with small offerings of plants like holly, oak, yew and mistletoe. He is often portrayed by his followers, in the small churches they have, being accompanied by wolves, dogs, bears or eagles. A small radical group of followers of Tyr however believes Tyrs justice means restoring the humans to their rightful place as the rulers of Kildar through means of violence as they look at his origins as a god of war.
Most humans have adjusted to the new balance of power well over the years since the Hadarian crisis. In fact a lot of humans wouldn’t even notice much difference besides the fact that there are now a lot more other species walking the streets, in day to day life not much has changed for them and they are relatively neutral with most other species. Some older humans who remember the time from before and during the Hadarian crisis are still a bit crude and skeptical about some species like Orcs, Goliaths and Gnomes but besides one off comments not much is taken notice of that. Humans are most closely aligned with Elves, noticeable in the fact that Half-Elves are a lot more common these days.
Most humans speak Common, it is and has been for centuries, the most spoken language in Kildar. To accommodate their former role as diplomats and ambassadors of the human monarchy, many humans learned the language of other species. On average, there are more bilingual humans than any other species on Kildar.
The Human species typically take on Medvedovian names or Kildarian names. Medvedovian names typically date back to their time on the Island, whereas Kildarian names are more modern , current day names. In both cases, humans typically don’t have last names. Instead, Kildarians identify themselves with the name of their hometown, profession or Guild. Whereas Medvevovians identify themselves with the name of their parents. Example include:
Kildarian:
… of Stormhaven
… Baker
… of the Smiths Guild
Medvedovian:
…, son of …
…, daughter of …
…, child of …

Generally speaking, the view that Humans have on the members of their species that become Tieflings or Aasimars is quite neutral, besides the stigma surrounding them of course. The only faction that really seems to have outspoken opinions about these species are the Children of Medvedov who despise Humans who became Aasimar or Tieflings. They see them as lesser beings and a waste of Human life.
Humans find their way into many different backgrounds, however most find a preference in Farmer and Merchant backgrounds. In addition, humans find a lot of representation in Guard, Sailor, Soldier and Noble backgrounds, a remnant from the time when the human monarchy ruled Kildar and a sign of their warlike nature.
When it comes to classes the Humans are quite versatile. Because of their appreciation of martial prowess, they have a tendency to lean towards martial classes like Fighters. In addition, the original Medvedovians brought with them armies of savage Barbarians, who were used to easily break through the defensive lines.
Humans tend to prefer educated but rational professions like teaching, medicinal professions or being a merchant. They tend to gravitate towards the Merchant Guild, the Scribes Guild, the Messengers Guild, the Banking Guild and the Diplomats Guild.
There is a faction of humans, they call themselves the Children of Medvedov, these humans think the fall of the royal family and following reduction in power for humans compared to other species is a disgrace and they aim to bring back power to the humans of Kildar. They reside all over Kildar but mostly meet up in underground taverns and hidden places in the bigger cities.
Humans are a species with a lot of variation in looks, with skin tones, hair colors, hair textures and eye colors that vary widely you will rarely find two humans that look exactly alike. Humans are either small or medium standing anywhere between 2ft. and 7ft. in height.
As all members of the human species of Kildar originate from the island of Medvedov, there are no different lineages. However, sometimes humans arrive from outside the continent. These humans often carry with them different customs and values. This is most often met with interest and curiosity. No true Lineage but more a difference in culture is that of the Medvedovians and Kildarians. Medvedovians are humans that live in a manner reminiscent of how Humans lived a long time ago, before the conquest of Kildar. Kildarians on the other hand are better adapted to modern times. The most important distinction can be noted in the naming conventions of Humans.
Dalvador Sali, a former adventurer and wealthy benefactor. During one of his adventures long before the events of the Crimson Dusk he found an ancient text with prophecies about the Cards of Fate that gave Kildar a chance to survive. A few years ago he decided to go on another adventure. Nothing has been heard from him since. His mansion in Brell is still being maintained by his servants.
Bimarat, the hero that defeated Hadar imbued with the power of the Cards of Fate.
Sven Medvedov, last king of Kildar. He died in the ruination of Torrica during the Crimson Dusk. He was posthumously nicknamed “The Bold”.
