Tessaaa, the Ancient Goddess of Time, watches over the flow of moments so that the current of time moves smoothly and does not tear itself apart. Her name is spoken with three as, for one echoes from the past, one rings in the present, and one whispers from the future - though in truth, there is only one a, heard three times at once.

Description

Divine Realm

Beyond the hours and years mortals can name, Tessaaa oversees an infinite network of Rivers of Time - countless streams branching, rejoining, looping, and fading, each carrying moments toward their proper ends. No single river is more important than another; even the smallest trickle may one day flood a world.

Her greatest struggle is not against paradox or prophecy, but against blockages. Chief among these are the Giant Cosmic Beavers, ancient creatures that instinctively build dams across time itself. Using fallen centuries, discarded futures, and the occasional forgotten Tuesday, they gnaw and stack until entire eras back up and threaten to overflow.

Tessaaa spends much of her divine effort clearing these dams - redirecting timelines, releasing trapped seconds, and sternly explaining to the beavers that this river is not suitable for construction. They never listen for long. Cosmic beavers rarely do.

When a dam finally breaks, mortals experience it as déjà vu, sudden inspiration, or the feeling that something almost happened differently. Tessaaa merely sighs, smooths the current, and moves on to the next river - past, present, and future flowing once more as they should.

Relationships

Tessaaa is a longtime friend of Mystra, Goddess of Magic, who tends the currents of arcane power. When mortals dare to cast time stop, Mystra dutifully alerts Tessaaa, who must then carefully stitch the paused moments back into the proper flow. This extra labor is tiresome, though Tessaaa knows it is rarely Mystra’s fault. Mystra even helps lessen the damage when she can.

Their exchanges are legendary among the gods.
A mortal casts time stop.
Mystra informs Tessaaa.
“What again?!” Tessaaa groans. “You should ban that spell.”
Mystra only laughs gently and replies, “But then what would your work be?”
Tessaaa, of course, has plenty.

Worshipers

Few mortals realize that Tessaaa is quietly tied to the winter festivals and the turning of the year. When candles burn low and bells ring at midwinter, it is her careful hand that ensures old years end gently and new ones begin on time - even if her name is never spoken.
