Sidebars are the panels to the right and can be filled with any element a page can. From menus to images to videos, there is tons of uses for this space.

By clicking the 3 dots in the upper right-hand corner of the page, you can choose if the sidebar is automatically open or closed when someone visits the page. Even if you click the right-hand hamburger with an arrow icon to close the sidebar, when you revisit the project, the sidebar will be open again.
