Xemascus stands as the industrial backbone of Llithe, a land where mountains are carved open and the rhythm of hammer against anvil never truly fades. Known across the realm as the Region of Fire and Iron, Xemascus has shaped the outcome of countless events throughout Llithe’s history. Armies march with weapons forged in its foundries, cities rise with tools crafted from its steel, and innovations emerging from Reach often rely on materials first born from the furnaces of this unforgiving land. Within Xemascus, labor is not merely work. It is identity. Grit, endurance, and relentless discipline define the people who call these mountains home.

The region itself is dominated by jagged mountain ranges and rocky terrain rich with mineral deposits. Mines stretch deep into the earth, their tunnels branching through layers of iron ore, coal seams, and rare metals that feed the region’s massive industrial output. Settlements cling to the sides of these mountains, forming fortified mining towns connected by narrow roads and heavy transport lines. Smoke rises from distant furnaces day and night, and the glow of molten metal can often be seen illuminating the night sky above the valleys. Those born in Xemascus grow up surrounded by the tools of creation, learning from a young age that survival and prosperity both come through hard work and mastery of the forge.

The true center of Xemascus industry lies within the city of Blackburn, home to the legendary forge complex known as the Redworks. Blackburn was built where several major mining routes converge, allowing raw materials from across the mountain region to flow directly into its massive industrial foundries. The Redworks is not a single forge but an immense network of smelters, casting halls, workshops, and engineering chambers. Here master smiths, engineers, and artificers refine ore into armor, weapons, siege engines, structural steel, and specialized alloys used throughout Llithe. The work of the Redworks supplies everything from the standard equipment of the King’s Army to the advanced materials required by the Ministry of Inquiry and the Sovereign Arcanum.

Yet above all the mountains of Xemascus, one peak stands apart.

Mount Calidum.

Calidum is isolated from the surrounding mountain ranges, rising from a scarred landscape shaped by violent volcanic activity. The ground around the mountain is layered with hardened magma flows, obsidian fields, and fractured stone where ancient eruptions reshaped the land itself. Even now the mountain remains volatile. Steam vents burst from its slopes, and deep rumblings sometimes echo through the surrounding valleys. The environment around Calidum is harsh and dangerous, but within that danger lies the greatest treasure Xemascus has ever known.

Deep within the volcanic heart of the mountain forms the rare alloy known as Xemascus Steel.

Forged from ore deposits altered by intense geothermal pressure and volcanic heat, Xemascus Steel possesses properties unlike any other metal in Llithe. The alloy is remarkably durable and uniquely resistant to the destabilizing effects of Mana. Because of this, it has become the most reliable material for containing, channeling, and stabilizing magical forces. Arcane devices built in Reach, mana containment structures within the Sovereign Arcanum, and specialized weapons used by elite forces often rely on this steel as their core structural component.

Mining Calidum is a dangerous undertaking. The volcanic terrain constantly shifts, magma pockets threaten excavation tunnels, and obsidian formations can shatter unpredictably under pressure. Only the most experienced mining crews are permitted to operate within the mountain’s inner chambers. These miners are considered some of the most respected laborers in Xemascus, as the materials they recover directly influence the strength and advancement of the entire realm.

The leadership of the region rests under House Ironheart, the ruling house responsible for overseeing both the mining operations and the industrial output of Xemascus. Their authority ensures that the dangerous work within Calidum and the surrounding mountains remains organized and productive. Ironheart governance emphasizes discipline and efficiency, maintaining the balance between industrial expansion and the safety of the people who work within these perilous environments.

Though its mountains are harsh and its labor relentless, the people of Xemascus take pride in the role they play within Llithe. While other regions cultivate crops, govern cities, or experiment with arcane knowledge, Xemascus provides the foundation upon which those ambitions are built.

The realm may be guided by crowns, faith, and magic.

But beneath it all, the strength of Llithe is forged in iron.
