Eryndor is an old, wealthy, disciplined elven kingdom whose power rests on long-lived aristocratic houses, careful constitutional balance, advanced science, exquisite craft, fast sail-driven maritime capability, noble-controlled wyvern warfare, and controlled foreign trade. Its government is a kingdom with an elected king or queen chosen every 25 Veyrathian years (about 17.1 Cycles) by six Prince-Electors. Its capital, Auraleth, is a neutral capital district outside all elector provinces, built around a deep western bay and designed to control foreign contact through crown-administered docks and a separate foreign island for human guests, coaling, quarantine, and external trade.
The Kingdom of Eryndor is the continuous elven realm occupying the continent of Eryndor. In its present national form, it was founded 6,323 Veyrathian years (about 4,328.5 Cycles) ago when the six great houses united and elected their first king, Aeloth Thalendir. Eryndor uses its own national calendar, with year zero marking the formation of the kingdom; the current Eryndorin year is 6323. In the old Imperial Baraldi calendar used across much of Mediath, Eryndor's founding falls in 5036 BB, Before Baraldi. Eryndor is not a human colonial frontier or a loose patchwork of states. It is a continent-scale elven civilization with deep institutional memory, refined material culture, advanced biological and physical science, and a distinctive rejection of most steam-era industrial methods.
