The ICSS Credit is the primary reserve currency and the most widely used currency in the Milky Way galaxy. Its symbol is ¢. It is the standard currency for general item values, with local currencies used when dealing with protected or uncontacted worlds.

Name and symbol

In ordinary speech, narration, rules and price lists, the currency is called a credit in the singular and credits in the plural. The full name, ICSS Credit, is used in very formal situations and in this descriptive entry. The symbol ¢ denotes the credit itself: ¢250 means 250 credits.

Digital currency and payment

Credits exist entirely as digital balances held in accounts. The currency has no physical manifestation: there are no credit coins, banknotes or other physical forms of the money. People transfer credits directly between accounts using software.

Vendors use point-of-sale software that interacts with a customer's wallet-connected device to make a payment. The device provides access to the customer's wallet and account; the payment transfers a digital balance between accounts. A routine purchase can use a tap-style interaction between the customer's device and the vendor's payment system.

Item values and local currencies

General item values, equipment prices and other monetary amounts use credits and the ¢ symbol by default. When the subject is a protected or uncontacted world, use the relevant local currency.
