Portalmancy is the ancient magic of moving people or items across great distances instantly via magic. It is the most powerful and most arduous magic in all Initia. Few can master it as it requires decades of practice before it can be done safely. As a result it has remained a dominantly elven practice. The only modern portalmancers are trained in the formerly independent city of Iconium.
Several large portal frames, the size of an inn or temple, are littered across the land and represent the most efficient way to practice portalmancy. Three are in such a state as to be workable, one in Korinthos, one in Antioch, and the final in Iconium. Modern portalmancers have been unable to re-create these behemoth transporters. They have, however, been able to create way-points via similar runes etched into circular stone slabs constructed across the world that can transport as many as five people across the land at a time. The usage of way-points requires the importance to accompany the traveler and are used almost exclusively by rulers and very affluent merchants.
