Whispers of a curse spread quickly among the sailors and townsfolk. Many held that Hadrin had strayed into the deep waters claimed by the Mournful Mariner, the spirit said to guard the darkest parts of the sea and punish any who trespass. His disappearance became a warning against sailing too far from the familiar waters of Port De Mona. Seafarers still tell of eerie sightings: a ship the very likeness of The Wave Cutter gliding silent through the fog on moonless nights, or spectral crew waving from her deck before vanishing into mist. Some claim to catch faint cries for help on the wind, or strange music from the sea. Others insist the gouges on the hull were cut by no natural creature, but by the claws of the Mariner himself.
