Revered as a spiritual haven for worshippers of Brighan, the Earth Mother, the city thrives on its connection to the land and its central role in celebrating the goddess's teachings. Dunwich’s equinox and solstice festivals draw pilgrims and revelers from across the realm, making it a beacon of faith and tradition.

However, Dunwich has struggled under faltering leadership. Over the last few generations, the city's governance has ceded nearly all authority to the Church of Brighan. High Priestess Clyra Sternvale, the stern and pious leader of the church, now wields significant influence over every aspect of the city’s affairs. While her leadership has provided structure and spiritual guidance, it has also stifled diversity of faith, leaving adherents of other gods marginalized and alienated.

A growing crisis grips Dunwich as a devastating plague ravages its population. The High Priestess, despite her spiritual authority, has been powerless to halt the disease, leading to whispers of divine disfavor or darker forces at work.
