Masquerade Role: The Mirror of Consequence

• Expected to reflect back the audience’s misdeeds or misgivings.

• Does not speak for themselves — only echoes what others have said in private.

Social Boon:

• +2 status bonus to Sense Motive and Perception when within 10 feet of a conversation or whispered exchange. Guests project their fears into Cipher’s presence.

Insight Boon:

• Once per phase, Cipher can reflect a guest’s internal regret or self-lie. If Cipher repeats the guest’s words back to them exactly, the guest must make a Will save (DC 18) or reveal a rumor involuntarily.

Drawback:

• Guests treat Cipher as a mirror — they rarely speak to Cipher directly, referring to themselves. Diplomacy checks suffer –1 unless Cipher engages through a third party.

• Phase 4, Cipher’s mask shimmers violently when in the presence of a member of The Court of Masks— granting them +2 to saves vs. illusion or compulsion effects for that phase.
