Rising jagged from barren cliffs and crumbled ruins, the Stone Thorn is a plant that seems less alive and more carved from the bones of the earth itself. Its stalks resemble weathered stone columns, gray and veined with mineral striations, yet they grow in twisted, thorn-studded spirals that no mason’s hand could fashion. Each spine gleams like obsidian glass, razor-sharp and harder than steel. When struck, the plant gives off a hollow ring, as though the mountain itself were answering back.
Though it thrives in desolation, its roots burrow deep, drawing sustenance not only from soil but from the latent magic of stone and ore. Entire cliffsides have been found armored in vast thickets of Stone Thorns, a cruel barrier against beasts and men alike.
Blood of the Mountain: When a thorn pierces flesh, it injects a dust-fine grit of stone essence into the wound. This causes the blood to stiffen and clot unnaturally fast—staunching bleeding, but at the cost of searing pain and temporary stiffness in the limb.
Ore-Drinker: Stone Thorns leech minerals from surrounding rock, leaving behind pale, weakened stone that crumbles easily. Many miners curse the plant as a thief of veins and promise of false riches.
Shard Bloom: Once every few years, a Stone Thorn may produce a rare crystalline flower, a jagged bloom of translucent quartz-like petals. When ground, these petals create a dust prized by alchemists for strengthening protective wards and fortifying stoneflesh potions.
Impenetrable Hedge: Tribes in the Shattered Lands sometimes transplant Stone Thorns to fortify their camps, creating living walls of unbreakable, cutting stone.
