Gobbo the goblin asked a group of adventurers for help on behalf of himself and his friends. He did not know why they were fighting in the crusade. All he knew is that they're tired of fighting and were unable to quit because of a deal they made with the fey. The adventurers ventured into the feywild to negotiate on behalf of the goblins. The fey did not like the way humanoids ran things and this resulted in some big emotions. The fey said they couldn’t allow the goblins to stop their fighting until their feelings changed. So the adventurers helped the fey process their feelings through combat. They were victorious and the fey released the goblins of their deal. This ended the fey’s influence over the crusade. They will focus their energy inwards for the time being.
As I understood from Felix, only crusaders who were fighting for Lord's Alliance are effected. (Pavel)
