Episode 2 | Road to Mt. Steel

Episode 2: Road to Mt. Steel

Following the fall and cleansing of Kingsly, the heroes departed Kaleido Haven with a new purpose: to seek a replacement shield at Mount Steel and restore the guardian’s ability to protect the Rainbow Tree. Yunara the Ninetales accompanied them... With the protective barrier gone and Rageblight spreading, the journey could not wait.

Leaving Kaleido behind, the group traveled until dusk and reached the edge of a dense forest scarred by signs of recent conflict. Blackened earth and scorch marks hinted at attacks from fire-type Pokémon.

As night fell, they made camp near mysterious ancient ruins, clearly made by either Pokémon, or perhaps something older, though the stonework was unfamiliar. Meloetta recognized a symbol carved into the exterior: The mark of Arceus.

Inside, Sir Toto and the rest of the party found an abandoned temple centered around a large stone platform bearing the same symbol. When Meloetta approached, she felt a strange, instinctive pull. Standing upon the platform, she sensed guidance—something unseen but deliberate, confirming the structure was once a place to commune with Arceus.

As the group explored further, they noticed footprints belonging to Houndour and Houndoom. Debating the risk of drawing attention, they ultimately decided to light a fire near the ruins for warmth and safety. Sir Toto also discovered a shimmering golden wild berry, rumored to carry unpredictable magical effects, which he cautiously stowed away.

The party settled in for the night, establishing a watch rotation. During her rest, Meloetta struggled to find rest, as she started to recall pieces of her past and felt unsettled by a faint, mechanical-sounding beep echoing through the region. Yunara reached out to her telepathically, speaking of Arceus’s long silence since the Great War and warning that even Legendary Pokémon might now be vulnerable to Rageblight. She also shared troubling reports of Kyogre’s influence, and the possible spread of corruption among other guardians, including Articuno.

Later, during the night watch, Scytti spotted a Houndour observing the camp from a distance. Moments later, the ruins were attacked by rageblighted Houndour and Houndoom. The party rushed to defend themselves as fire and embers tore through the clearing. A fierce battle erupted, with light and frost attacks proving especially effective against the Rageblighted Pokémon. Yunara bolstered the group with blessings, while coordinated strikes eventually brought the Houndoom down, each releasing an odd crimson fog as it fell.

Badly wounded but victorious, the group took time to recover. During the battle, a mysterious marble tablet made its appearance. A tablet etched with Arceus’s symbol.
Sir Toto recognized its craftsmanship as similar to sacred relics associated with Kyogre.

As they debated its purpose, they realized Yunara had wandered off. She was soon found speaking with Inteleon, a covert agent for The Frontiers who had arrived with intelligence on Mount Steel.

Inteleon warned of dangerous routes ahead: the Sinister Woods teeming with hostile Pokémon, and a longer but safer path past The Waterfall Pond—though an Alakazam had been sighted there. Given the circumstances, the party chose the longer route.

As dawn broke, the group spoke to the exhausted Houndoom who claimed they were not in their own territory. Rather than fight, the heroes shared food with them, and the two groups parted peacefully.

Continuing onward, the group met a traveling Buizel who warned that the Honey Tree was abandoned and that Alakazam had not been seen recently... Near the river, the party found an apple-laden tree claimed by a Sentret, whose self-serving motives were quickly uncovered. The Sentret offered to trade Honey for a Rainbow Bean, a very useful boon.
And so the group decided to cros the lake toward the Honey Tree...

There, they were ambushed by rageblighted Combee and their Vespiqueen. The battle quickly turned chaotic as charms and sleep magic ensnared several party members. Under the queen’s influence, allies were turned against one another until a well-timed Calm Emotions by Chansey broke the enchantments and restored clarity.

The Vespiqueen retaliated with blight magic, but was ultimately struck down by a thunderous blow. Her body turning gray and stone-like as a mysterious disembodied voice demanded the return of “borrowed energy.”

In the aftermath, the group discovered a hidden cavity beneath the hive, inscribed with ancient text proclaiming it the resting place of the Grass Tablet of Arceus. The heroes recovered a glowing orb once belonging to Vespiquen, named Harriet, the ancient Vespiqueen. As they examined their findings... Alakazam appeared across the lake.

Acting quickly, the party created an illusion to distract the psychic Pokémon while Yunara formed an ice path across the water. The ruse succeeded, and the heroes escaped, setting their sights firmly on Mount Steel... With a new relic in hand, unanswered questions mounting, and the shadow of Alakazam still looming, Team ScarfShield pressed onward...knowing the journey ahead would only grow more perilous.
