Meloetta awoke in her treehouse near Kaleido Haven, remembering the upcoming Revival Festival where the first Reviver Seeds would fall from the Rainbow Tree. As she left, she discovered Petal the Chansey, a caring healer with narcolepsy, asleep against a tree with her basket of eggs spilled. Meloetta quietly helped gather the eggs, and Petal's scarf mysteriously resonated with hers. Nearby, Petal's cart contained supplies and a drained Unown that needed to be returned to Renthos the Sigilyph. Meloetta, who communicates through dance and sign language, requested to travel with Petal to Kaleido Haven.

Upon reaching the vibrant settlement protected by Kingsly the Aegislash, noble leader and guardian of the Rainbow Tree, they passed through his protective grid. At Renthos's shop, they encountered Scytti the Scyther, a daring Rogue Swashbuckler heading to a tournament at the Juicy Canopy.
As Scytti walked away, Meloetta experienced a disturbing vision of a deserted Waterfall Pond and a rageblighted Alakazam teleporting Scytti's family away, leaving her alone. Meanwhile, Scytti bought a Rainbow Bean from Fuzz the Furret, a fast-talking trader of illicit goods, hoping for a competitive edge in the tournament. Inside Renthos's shop, Petal returned the Unown and purchased illusory text Unown to help Meloetta communicate. Renthos admitted business was terrible due to Rageblight.

Sir Toddrick, a well-intentioned but scatterbrained Totodile Paladin from the Isle of Dyle, arrived by surfing on a Palafin. He announced his mission as an envoy to help with Rageblight and meet Kingsly. The group exchanged introductions, and Sir Toddrick invited them to call him "Sir Toto." As the group enters The Rainbow Tree, Sir Toto was blocked by the protection barrier. They found Officer Johnny the Arcanine, Kaleido Haven's tired peacekeeper, who used a special metal piece to allow Sir Toto passage through the barrier.
The group visited the Juicy Canopy, Toast the Appletun's bustling tavern. Scytti joined Tsareena in a punch challenge against a Wobbuffet, winning the first round but losing overall to Tsareena. During their time in the tavern, Dame Fern the Meganium, caretaker of the wounded and namer of the Rageblight, entered looking for Officer Johnny. The group proceeded to deliver Sir Toto's letter to Kingsly. Finding his house empty, they heard his voice from the Sacred Grove. Meloetta entered cautiously, overhearing a serious conversation between Kingsly and Officer Johnny about increasing security.

Kingsly showed Meloetta a blackened Reviver Seed that had fallen from the Rainbow Tree, confirming their dwindling supply. Meloetta sensed the tree was unwell and detected that Kingsly's protective grid was weakening due to his stress. When the rest joined them, Kingsly switched to Sword form and hid the blackened seeds, maintaining a confident facade while formally accepting Sir Toto's letter. He privately confessed his deep stress and fear of the tree dying to Meloetta.
Kingsly noticed Meloetta's scarf, recalling seeing a similar pattern long ago when he was a Honedge. Sir Toto asks the group if he can send a letter back home, and the others follow him to Pelipper's Office. On the beach outside Haven, Meloetta sensed movements beneath the sand and uses her illusory text Unown to send young Pokémon back to the Haven. After experiencing a vision of a Pikachu being sucked into sand. She narrowly avoided being caught by an invisible creature with red glowing eyes.

The four heroes engaged three Rageblighted Sandyghasts that emerged from the sand: After a fierce battle, they defeated all three, with each fallen enemy releasing red fog upon unconsciousness. Officer Johnny, Dame Fern, and Yunara the Ninetales arrived. The freed Krabby confirmed seeing a red Gyarados in the ocean as well...
While the others joined a tournament at the Juicy Canopy, Meloetta slipped away to check on Kingsly. She found Renthos unconscious and severely injured by sword slashes in Kingsly's house, and noticed the honeycomb patterns around the Rainbow Tree turning red. She frantically alerted the others that Kingsly was likely affected by Rageblight. The group rushed to the Sacred Grove, where the Rainbow Tree was slowly turning red. In the center stood Kingsly, covered in a red aura, in shield form.

A fierce battle ensued against the rageblighted guardian. Kingsly deployed darkness and created duplicates of himself, switching between sword and shield forms. Sir Toto's radiant attacks proved most effective against the corruption. Finally, Scytti delivered a critical blow, shattering Kingsly's shield and causing him to fall unconscious with the red aura dissipating.
With Kingsly defeated, the protective barrier around Kaleido vanished, yet the tree began returning to its healthy color. Dame Fern administered the last remaining Reviver Seed, and Kingsly awoke confused with no memory of his rageblighted actions. Yunara revealed that Kyogre was causing similar disturbances near Sir Toto's home island, with healing pearls there also turning black like the Reviver Seeds.
She also revealed that the rageblighted Alakazam who attacked Scytti's home was a dear friend of hers. Yunara, sensing Meloetta's connection to Arceus and recognizing the group as chosen, suggested they journey to Mount Steel to find a new shield for Kingsly, allowing him to protect Kaleido Haven once more. And to commune with the Legendary Articuno. The heroes officially formed Team ScarfShield and prepared to rest before embarking on their journey to Mount Steel!
