#004 Dances & Dragons

Session 4 Summary

A few months before the start of the Cursebreakers Academy year of 248 A.T.C, Vita Stormborn sat alone in one of the many grand halls of Einar Giedensera’s palace. Though she had been granted a place to train under the last Luminary of Maraya, her father. But the cold walls of the palace offered little warmth, and the distance between her and her mentor felt insurmountable. Her lessons were frustrating, her magic unpredictable, and no matter how hard she tried, she always felt out of place.

One evening, Kaedlin, the palace’s head attendant was preparing another day of Luminary language lessons. But Vita's mind was distracted. Kaedlin revealed something that made Vita’s heart skip a beat. Her mother had once worked at this very palace.

There was one day of spring in the palace, and nine months later, Vita was born.

Her mother no longer worked there because of a misunderstanding. He believed that she cheated on her, because in his mind, it was... impossible. It was a revelation that left Vita with more questions than answers. Sensing the Vita's unrest, Kaedlin made a decision: She needed a break.

That day, she whisked Vita away to the Saltspray Bazaar, a sprawling open-air market filled with traders, artisans, and entertainers. The air was thick with the scent of roasted meats, citrus, and sea salt, and the marketplace was alive with vibrant fabrics, shimmering gemstones, and golden trinkets.

Vita’s eyes were drawn to a rose quartz seahorse figurine, and when she inquired about its origin, a merchant mentioned that it had been crafted by an instructor from the Cursebreakers Academy. Something about it felt significant, though Vita suspected it hadn’t been obtained legally. She was able to... persuade the merchant to let it go for a lower price. Kaedlin enjoying watching her haggle her way into a good sale.

Nearby, vendors boasted about their “golden crabs,” said to bring good fortune... but gullible Vita believed the vendor entirely, falling for the scam. While the golden crabs might've been real, this sleazy salesmen was using a spell to make it look golden... However, when Vita tried one, she realized it was an elaborate scam, the "golden crab" was just an ordinary crustacean dipped in edible gold leaf.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, the Bazaar came alive with music and dancing.
Vita wondered what the people were doing, and Kaedlin told her the story of Solaris, the Sun Lion Idol that watches over Concordia. To honor him, people danced as Solaris went to rest, at sunset. And they honor him by performing the Sunset Dance, a tradition performed in honor of Solaris.

At first hesitant, Vita allowed Kaedlin to lead her into the steps. She stumbled, laughed, and just for a moment, forgot all her worries. For the first time since arriving at the palace, she felt a fleeting sense of belonging....

Before Summerbreak, Naomi, Vita, and Rose attended an Harmonic Arts class under Professor Kalashar, a towering elephantfolk man always covered in paint and dust. Known for his eccentric teaching style, Kalashar cared less for rules and more for creativity!

Today was a special day, time to learn the Sunset Dance—The students paired up, some eager, others hesitant. Naomi found herself with Jora, a confident Lionfolk warrior wearing full armor despite the dancing, while Thalga approached by a Kobold around her height named Gabana, whose easygoing nature put her at ease. Rose danced with another young man albeit both their dancing was a little uneven. The lesson was awkward at first, but by the end, even those unfamiliar with dance found themselves moving more naturally.

Returning to the present, the ladies dressed in their finest attire and made their way to Shamsha Leonidas, the grandest restaurant in Costa Del Rugido. They had barely stepped through the gilded doors before being reminded of the importance of the night—they were to be on their best behavior by Einar Giedensera, as they would be dining alongside the nobility of Ignisar. Among them was King Anwar Orpaz himself, representatives from the Sevenfold Commonwealth and Bristlefur Highlands, and even a priestess from the Sunfire Expanse.

Seated among the guests was a striking noblewoman in an elaborate, fiery dress. A quick inquiry revealed her likely connection to the Ragnar family, a powerful lineage from Sevenfold known for their ruthlessness. But there were also friendlier faces, such as Prince Ramiel, who brought a little dragon named Sparky. Which Naomi and Vita encountered in the bathroom when it wandered in there. Curious, Vita knelt down and held out a hand. The creature chirped softly, hesitating before trotting forward and pressing its warm, scaled nose against her palm.

After the ladies made their way back to Einar and the others, Einar instructed them that they were going to introduce themselves to the royal family and their guests. King Anwar Orpaz, Queen Agimi Orpaz-Solana and their son Solaris II Orpaz, and a high priestess of Mother's Love.

After introductions and some back and forth conversations about several topics during the dinner, prince Ramiel Accoson Talosta left to retrieve to dragon eggs, to present them to the king, part of long standing tradition between the Kingdom of Concordia, formerly Maraya, and Stormglen. But he didn't return.

Vita Stormborn, and Naomi Kawakami excused themselves and discovered that the prince was shouting at the staff, with Einar, Thalga and Rose following after them shortly.

The eggs had vanished, along with Sparky. The last person seen near them? Serik, one of the employees. As the staff started to speak to the guards, prince Ramiel asked the ladies for help, if Ramiel's dragon Sieglinde would uncover that the eggs disappeared, she could go into a frenzy. Time was of the essence. Einar told the ladies that they along with the prince had to find the eggs, implying he trusted them more than the guards to handle this.

Using a magical compass summoned by Lumin Einar, the group followed a faint trail leading them through the Ember Promenade, one of Costa Del Rugido’s liveliest districts. The compass guided them toward a warehouse on the district's outskirts.

As they reached the warehouse, they found a group of armed thugs, initially they tried a drunken tactic, but that didn't seem to work. And so they used force, but the ladies and prince Ramiel found themselves quickly outnumbered. Eventually their leader made an appearance, a catfolk male with a glowing purple eye, his presence radiating an unsettling energy which Rose immediately recognized, it was the same sensation as when her entire town disappeared years ago.

The thieves wasted no time in making demands. They would return the eggs—for a price. 500 gold pieces. The ladies initially refused, and the leader made it very clear that Serik would have to be killed then, since he had a debt. Some of them like Naomi didn't want an innocent man down on his luck to be killed, but others like Rose hesitated implying that this is not their problem, but her hestitation caused her holy symbol of Harmonia to, darkened in response—a sign of disapproval.

Outnumbered and at a tactical disadvantage, the group had little choice. The deal was struck, and though it left a bitter taste, the eggs and Sparky were returned safely.

As the exchange was completed, Rose knew for sure. Something about the gang leader was deeply wrong. His presence, his aura—it wasn’t just unsettling. It was familiar. Her mind flashed back to the day her hometown of Kall-Carie disappeared. The same dark force that had destroyed her home was standing before them now. There was more at play here than a simple theft.

With the eggs secured, they rushed back to Shamsha Leonidas, but while walking back Vita staggered, her vision swimming.

A vision. An alternate outcome.

Image

In this vision, Prince Ramiel lay wounded, the guards he brought with him, slaughtered by the thieves. Their actions had changed something—had they prevented this fate? As the vision faded, Naomi steadied Vita, exchanging a glance filled with unspoken concern.
Inside, Einar Giedensera awaited them. The time had come to explain everything...
