Legends

“From beyond the veil, from beyond the page, a storied soul arrives, bearing a lesson for this world.”

Iconic figures, drawn from the pages of fairy tales, novels, and timeless stories, step beyond their narratives to lend their talents and wisdom to those bold enough to summon them.

Picture Dorothy Gale, her ruby slippers gleaming as she offers courage and guidance to those who’ve lost their way. Imagine Victor Frankenstein, brilliant yet haunted, his restless curiosity and volatile inventions forever pushing the boundaries of what should be possible. Or envision Señor Zorro, eyes sharp with mischief, blade flashing in the moonlight as he fights with unwavering devotion for justice. These are Legends. Beings rooted in their stories yet no longer bound by them. They transcend time and space, carrying with them not only their strengths but also the lessons and perspectives that made their tales endure.

More About Legends

Legends fall into two categories: Major and Minor.

Major Legends are figures whose stories were once told with intent—to teach, to warn, or to inspire. No matter how complex or bittersweet the lesson, their presence resonates across countless tellings and retellings, giving them a weight that lingers in the shared imagination across many variations and worlds. As far as is known, there are only twenty Major Legends in existence, though there are exceptions.

Minor Legends, by contrast, encompass every other character who emerged from those same pages. They may not be the story’s axis, but their presence shapes it—and their power, once summoned, can rival or even surpass that of a Major Legend.

Beyond those two categories, Legends can manifest in various conditions or alignments known as States. These states are often marked by a colored aura or sparkle surrounding the Legend, reflecting their current mental condition, alignment, or corruption. Four distinct states have been observed:

  • 🔵 Benevolent (Blue)

  • 🔴 Antagonistic (Red)

  • 🟣 Void-Corrupted (Purple)

  • 🟢 Unknown (Green)

The 🔵 Benevolent State, signified by a blue glow or sparkles, represents a Legend in their natural, uncorrupted form or one actively allied with their Keeper and companions. This state embodies a positive alignment. The 🔴 Antagonistic State, marked by a red aura or sparkles, indicates a Legend who is self-interested, hostile, or acting on their own agenda without direct influence from the Void. According to Legends Victor and Beast, these individuals are often unpredictable and dangerous. The 🟣 Void-Corrupted State is the most perilous, consistently marked by a purple glow, aura, or smoke. This state signifies that a Legend or individual has been directly tainted, possessed, or manipulated by the power of the Void. Such corruption often manifests as rage, despair, and malevolence. In 249 ATC, A 🟢 fourth state, marked by green sparkles, has also been observed, though its meaning remains unknown. Even experienced Legends are unfamiliar with it, and its significance and alignment remain a mystery.

It is said that Custodians possess the rare gift of summoning a Minor Legend, drawing upon their varied histories and unique talents. Major Legends, however, emerge differently. They appear not through a single ritual, but from the shared consciousness of countless retellings. No one knows how or why they arrive—only that it is uncommon and extraordinary. Once summoned, a Legend awakens as something more than a shadow of their tale. Though spectral in form, they feel emotions, recall memories vividly, and wield strange powers ranging from invisibility to invulnerability.

When bonded to a Keeper through the connection known as Keeper’s Forme, a Legend becomes impervious to harm, lending their strength and knowledge directly to their host. Most intriguing of all, some Legends carry not only the memories of their original story but also of every retelling, adaptation, and even their countless deaths. They remember how they lived, how they were reimagined, and how they fell—again and again. Yet they endure, ever ready to inspire anew.

The Dangers

Yet the act of bringing a Legend into being is never without peril. To awaken as a figure drawn from fiction is to confront a staggering truth: that one’s very existence was crafted for the sake of a story. Many Legends grapple with this realization, spiraling into doubt or rage. Some reject the notion outright, rebelling against those who summoned them. This is where Keepers play a vital role. More than mere guides, they serve as an anchor. To help a Legend navigate the confusion of their awakening, teaching them to see purpose beyond the confines of their original tale. A Keeper’s bond can mean the difference between a Legend who flourishes and one who turns destructive.

Once created, however, a Legend’s fate is sealed. They cannot be unmade, nor can they ever return to their original story. For this reason, Custodians and Keepers often craft safe havens, pocket dimensions echoing fragments of the Legends’ original world(s). Within these spaces, Legends can find solace, grounding themselves in familiar landscapes while exploring their newfound reality. In the case of a Major Legend, these realms sometimes form on their own, growing organically as if stitched from their memory. Such places shimmer with the essence of the tale itself, offering adventurers a chance to step into stories reimagined, blurred where fiction and reality intertwine.

Summoning a Legend is not a task undertaken lightly. To call one forth is an act reserved for dire moments, when need outweighs the danger. The consequences of failure are grave: if a Legend is sealed away, or worse, destroyed... Their essence can twist into a Voidspawn. Beings that are stripped of their identity and purpose, consumed by bitterness.
And since Legends feel as deeply as any mortal, capable of love, loyalty, and rage. The betrayal of their destruction breeds an endless resentment as strong as The Void itself.
