The Vassal State of Sol was founded by religious knights who fought in the Great War of the Gods. They named their kingdom after Solisis, the Sun God—one of the Knight Gods who supported the mortals during the conflict.
Over the centuries, Sol’s independence waned, eventually becoming a vassal state under Lothen. Despite this subservient status, Sol’s relationship with Lothen remains positive due to their shared faith and aligned religious values.
Sol’s lands are harsh and dramatic: extremely warm summers, bitterly cold winters, and vast mountainous regions that often turn dry and unforgiving.
However, the kingdom is also famed for its healing springs, known as miraculous lakes, which draw pilgrims from across the mainland.
Travelers must remain cautious of Sol’s strict religious laws, which apply both within the cities and throughout the countryside.
Solites are deeply religious, shaping their identity and culture around Solisis and the Gods of the Final Light.
Their lives revolve around outdoor labor—farming, herding, hunting, and craftsmanship.
They maintain an elite infantry force known as the Sunknights, and many men and women dedicate their lives to priesthood as Priests or Acolytes, considered the highest of honors in Solite society.
Sol struggles with many of the same threats faced by southern kingdoms:
Pirates from the southern seas
Raiders from the Lion Mountains
Additionally, Solite leaders are strictly intolerant of the faithless—particularly magic users—resulting in ongoing witch hunts across the kingdom.
The greatest danger in Sol is ignorance of the law.
Sol enforces rigid rules regarding religious rituals, faith, and magic. Magic practiced by nonbelievers is considered a grave crime, often punishable by death.
As a result, many Solites abandon society and live as outlaws in the forests or mountains, making the kingdom’s roads perilous for travelers.
The ruler, titled Cardinal, is elected by the people and must be male.
Solite monarchs must pay 50% of their wealth as tribute to Lothen.
Bishops (men or women) serve as city authorities outside the capital.
Priests and Priestesses are the only aristocrats and enjoy special privileges.
Magic users deemed faithless are executed by fire.
Bodies of the dead are placed on tall platforms to decompose under the sun.
Solites are expected to work outdoors to receive the Sun’s blessing.
Only men may become Sunknights, wielders of extremely long spears.
