Äälar

Äälyn
Martial Boon:
Äälar: 1 Wis, 1 Dex
Äälyn: 1 Wis, 1 Con
Age. Truly Immortal. Although Äälar reach physical maturity at about the same age as humans, their understanding of adulthood goes beyond physical growth to encompass worldly experience. An Äälar typically claims adulthood around the age of 100 and can live forever. Although many choose to depart the world on their own terms, as by nature, Äälar get more depressed the longer they live.
Alignment. Generally detached and aloof. They lean toward Neutrality, viewing the fleeting conflicts of Men with curiosity rather than passion.
Size. Slender and tall. Äälar (Surface) stand between 6 and 7 feet tall but weigh only 100–145 lbs. Äälyn (Mountain) have adapted to be shorter, broader, and more muscular.

In the records of "The Writer," the Äälar are defined by their resourcefulness—a relentless ability to adapt that has preserved their kind across aeons of adversity. Though they appear to be two different races to the uninitiated, they are a single, ancient people split by a choice: those who remained in the mountain halls, and those who departed for the sunlit world.

The Unearthly Beauty Whether dwelling in the golden forests or the frozen wastes, all of this kin possess an otherworldly quality that sets them apart.
The Äälar (The Light-Kin): Those who left the mountains for the surface. In the Golden Haven of Sarańavaama, they are the Valäälar—regal, fair-skinned, and hauntingly beautiful. Their hair cascades like liquid light, and their piercing eyes glow with an inner magic.
The Äälyn (The Dark-Kin): Known as the Vöräälyn (or Hämäräälar by their cousins). Remaining in the deep halls of Dölgyd, they have become swarthy, rugged, and shorter. Their builds are earthy and powerful, reflecting the resilience required to thrive in the dark heart of the world.

The Relentless Focus Because they do not fear the passage of years, this race views the world through a long lens. They are rarely moved by the petty happenstance that troubles the "Short-Lived" races.
Aloof but Driven: They are slow to make friends and even slower to forget an enemy. While they prefer diplomacy and the "flexibility of the young tree," they possess a stern martial side. When focused on a goal, whether it be a craft or a war, they are relentless.
The Weariness: Immortality is not without its cost. Some, after centuries of witnessing the world change, fall into a deep depression and choose to leave the mortal coil, passing away not from sickness, but from a choice of the spirit.

The Dwellers of the Extremes As the "Third People" (Man) spread across Poseia, the Äälar have retreated into the world's most inaccessible reaches, using magic to sustain themselves without scarring the land.
The Five Lineages: Beyond the great kingdoms of Sarańavaama and Dölgyd, they have adapted to the harshest climates. The Lumiäälar of the north are pale as snow with frozen blue eyes; the Hiekkäälar of the south have skin as dark and tough as the desert dunes, the Sooäälar of the Fens tends to have skin with a greenish hue, and their hair can often resemble an assortment of roots and moss. Lastly, the rarest, the Mieräälar of the sea have hands and feet are webbed and they tend to have a blueish skin with green, seaweed like hair.
Artisans of the Secret: They are the world’s most talented artisans, though they rarely trade with outsiders. The Äälyn of Dölgyd, in particular, are famed for their metalwork—expertly crafted wares that are often the only contact a Human will ever have with the ancient race.
